2003 R1 & VortX Bodywork: Thermostat cut?
JoaoCaldeira - 19/6/06 at 01:03 PM

Hi all.

Those of you building a VortX with a 2002 / 03 R1: what have you done to the protuding thermo housing?
Unlike the previous R1 incarnations, you can't relocate easely the housing ans is hard plumbed to the engine blok...

Joao,

cut the hard pipe in half.

Put a silicon hose between the 2 halves to move the thermostat to where you want it.

Hi Joao

As far as I know we are the only 2 MNRs with 2002/3 R1 engines. My bonnet fits over the thermostat OK though not sure how much clearance i have and whether it will be a problem when I plumb in.

Cutting the metal pipe seems like a reasonable solution.

Cheers Greg

*cough, cough*

There's no way the stat on mine will clear the bonnet, it actually protrudes over the top chassis rail.
