Noise level?
GregMcN - 25/3/08 at 08:04 PM

Has anyone measured noise levels from R1 with standard MNR s.steel silencer. + foam filter (no airbox) Just wondered whether I was likely to have problems if I tried a trackday - it seems pretty loud.

Thanks Greg

Mine measured 108 dB. Not that yours will be the same necessarily. Marc reckoned at the time that the meter was probably a bit out as with his calibrated meter they were usually quieter.

Remember that intake roar makes up a good proportion of the sound if you have a foam filter.

Mine measures 104db with a 30" MNR silencer and a homemade airbox.
Measured at 7500rpm.

Bugger - even though my MNR can is longer than most that's a worry!

Does anyone have experience of the Pipercross airboxes? i.e. this thing.

Thanks

hi all most of the time people have noise problems after their car has been svad as when the cat is added the heat buildup is so bad the insulation / packing goes hard and disintegarates, try repacking first, i run a shorter silencer than most of you have and i dont have any problems even before i fitted the airbox

we have just started stocking the pipercross airbox , very good for the money

If the Cars are anyting like the Bikes i have to get noise tested for trackdays then mechanical noise is a huge factor aswell.

Make sure the engine is well up to temp as for a bike that can be worth 1db and make sure your engine bay is either insulated or you strtegically place people to act as sound deadening from the meter to the engine

Can they be fitted to a 5VY R1? as the servo motor and fuel rail are raised above the top of the throttle bodies.

Marc

Does the air box use the foam filter or something else?

One more question Marc - does it use the standard base plate for the ususal Pipercross filter?

Cheers.

Well my PX600 Series Airbox arrived from Demon Thieves on Wednesday afternoon. I just un-clipped the existing sausage using the 3 x dzus fasteners, then stuck the airbox straight on. It came ready fitted with an inverted cone filter, a can of dirt retention spray and a couple of feet of flexy duct.

Took all of 5 minutes to fit, straight to the existing base plate.

Will post up some info on noise levels after tomorrows testing.

HTH

Mike

That's what I thought - now confused. You say Yes; Marc says No.

marc n - 29/3/08 at 07:34 AM

i must be using a bigger size one or mikes original airfilter is diffferent to what we use normally ? as the baseplate for the airboxes i have fitted is a lot bigger than the sausage type

Stuart

I had to make a base plate from fiberglass and move a few things to suit the 5VY. It isn't too difficult and doesn't take very long to do. Greg still has your email address so I will send you an email with pics and how to do it tomorrow night. I can't find the pics right now and am just about to load the car in the trailer for a supersprint tomorrow.

Cheers
