Trouble selling
marmot0 - 2/6/09 at 06:38 PM

Is anybody else having trouble selling their cars, I have andvertised here http://pistonheads.com/sales/1052535.htm
and on this site and have not recieved one phone call. I D'ont think the price is too outragous, Any advice with the advert much apreciated, judging by some of the cars at Brands yesterday the credit crunch has not affected everyone.

Cheers

Seems to be the norm at the mo.. I've advertised bits of my Zook an variuos 4x4 forums with no luck.

I also have house to go if anyone has £220,000?

plenty of good cars up for sale at the moment - including mine here on PH

lots of choice for buyers - thankfully Im in no hurry to sell mine as there's a lot of cheap ones about.

I've had some interest and offers from that site but the car's staying with me for now.

good luck with yours - seems a fair price

No hurry for me but would like to get it sold by end of august, so that I can start thinking about buying a race prepped RGB car.

Cheers

Without sounding rude, yours has a fantastic spec, is a good price but the colour and look of a Striker is a bit love/hate. As has already been said, there are a lot of cars up for sale at the moment - BECS on PH has gone from around 19/20 listed to over 30 in the last few weeks.

Is it too much to hope for included shipping to the US for either of these cars?

...... oh well.... maybe next time

I would be happy with either of those builds, beautiful job guys. It's a shame I don't live in the UK.

Not trying to be insulting in any way, but maybe you could try taking some pictures against a nicer backdrop? Lockup is funtional but not the nicest thing for something that will be a purchase of the heart rather than the mind.

Do you have a mate with a big posh driveway, or drive to a local golf course and take some snaps there. I think it might make it look a bit better.

bimbleuk - 2/6/09 at 07:37 PM

Just my opinion but the green is a bit over powering. I would consider fitting black rear arches and maybe a couple of black bonet vents to break up the large green bonnet surface. Other than that the spec is good and the price about right for a Striker.

The spec mentions half doors? I've got half grp doors on mine and it makes a subtle but a positive differnce to the appearance to mine with them fitted.

Black arches - left

Dangle is right to draw attention to the 'uninspiring' photos.

Really the whole advert isn't doing you any favours. There's only a couple of benefit statements, mostly it's features whcih may or may not mean anything to a potential purchaser.

There's nothing in the wording to really engage a viewer, one can imagine someone reading it and being left cold by the whole experience.

I can just see the half doors in the track shots. Also a low angle shot of a Striker makes em look goofy at the front!

You could get a car shipped to the states for under 1k, so i'm sure both of those people would sell you their car if you paid 1/2 the cost's of shipping.
At the end of the day a sale's a sale and most people would drop £500 to sell the car.

bassett - 2/6/09 at 09:05 PM

Personally i would remove the track photos as although we know bec's are ment to be abused and are great on the track i think it could put a buyer off. As for the rest it sounds great and its a niche car so stick it out at that price if you can. Might also be worth advertising on other specialist areas like total kit car magazine and the other one.

Gut feeling is £8k is a bit on the high side. Don't think my car cost anything near that to finish and no way it's way near that much if I sold it now......

smart51 - 2/6/09 at 09:33 PM

Mine is for sale here and I'm having trouble selling it. I get about 2 enquiries per week. Mostly time wasters. A couple who said they loved it and want to come to see it, only then to go quiet. One who said that went straight out and bought something else.

The only guy who has come to see it thought it would be too much work to convert it to one armed use.

Its annoying but it is the state of the market. The news media has talked the public into not buying anything, causing the retail and second hand economy into collapse. Most people are no worse off than this time last year but have completely bought into the "oooo better not" mentality in the press. Bad news if you're selling a car, probably good news if you're buying.

sorry but £ 8 K is far too much.

look on PH - there are two MK indy BEC for under £ 6 k that are not sold (assuming the adverts get pulled when sold - been on there for nearly a week - ok, early days plus not looked at spec. for full comparison. I know to which car my eye would be drawn to).

Sad reality is that we may value the car according to how much we have spent on it but it is unlikely we will see all of that money returned.

Not quite, One is £5990 and the other £6600. There's a locost on for £5750 which I do think is a bit steep but there's a fury for sale at £6500 but with 5 BECs also on offer between £7000 and £7995, £8000 isn't exactly cheap I suppose.

02GF74 - 3/6/09 at 07:36 AM

^^^ you're right, what was I thinking??? £ 7 k probably - look, it is still early morning ok!!!

craig_007 - 3/6/09 at 10:22 AM

The Locost at £5750 is mine,I've dropped price now,I was unsure what to advertise it at.
Anyone got any input ? Am I still to dear at £5250 ?

Cheers Craig

Dont they cost £5000 less than that to build

Mark Allanson - 3/6/09 at 08:28 PM

Its all part of the sales inverse square rule.

For every punter with 10k to spend there are 2 with 9k, 4 with 8k, ...........128 with 3k,.........512 with 1k

Its not so much the price but the number of punters with enough dosh who want a seven

RK - 4/6/09 at 01:31 AM

People can offer what they think it's worth. I've never understood people's reluctance to do that if they really want something. The seller can decide if that's the price he wants.

But yes, get a good background! Look like a winner in the pics, and people will want to be part of it. Go to one of those horsey jump places even. But golf courses are good.
