thin walled stainless tube
Delinquent - 2/9/09 at 01:04 PM

I'm after some thin walled brushed stainless tube about 50-60mm dia to make some light fittings out of for the house - anyone know of a good cheap supplier as everyone I've spoken to has stuff heavy enough to make buses out of!

Define thin wall a bit better?

Try hygenic stainless suppliers such as THESE

Davie

LOL good point - well less than 2.5mm would be a good start, it really is just for appearances so anything capable of holding it's own weight up would do!!!

Would ally suffice?

Might be easier to find what your looking for - e.g. intercooler pipe work from Rally Design etc.

probably but I was trying to match some other bits and pieces which are stainless.

Did you click my LINKY?

You can get 2.5" with 1.5mm wall thickness

either would be great - but I need a fair bit of it LOL - 1 x 1.5m length and 1 x 800mm length!

leon51274 - 2/9/09 at 03:01 PM

ok, just checked, I've got a 2.9mtr Length 50od x 1.5mm brush polished. Its not in immaculate condition as its not been kept in its plastic sleeve.
Cheers
Leon

If you fancy letting me know where you are and how much you want for it, and just how bad the condition is that'd be great Leon

I'm in York. I've given it a clean and there light scratch's more than anything, i suppose it depends how much of the tube is going to be seen! Some will come out with a bit of scotch bright. If your interested i can fedex it to you all in for £20. If you drop me your email i will send some pics.

If you've any dairy farmers nearby give them a ring. They use a lot of thin-walled stainless in milking systems and you can get offcuts or used bits from the fabricators quite cheaply.

Same goes for anyone in the drinks industry.

U2U me if you can get to Cardiff.

Davey D - 2/9/09 at 06:46 PM

how about the stainless used to make exhaust systems? you could try asking at a local powerflow centre, or any other custom exhaust fabricators. Granted it wont come brushed, but that is the easy part of the job

tends to be thick walled - I need it to be as light as possible and it's going to carry absolutely zero need for anything over 0.5mm really (though that appears unattainable). Following up a few leads plus leon above but all tips welcome
