I spent a couple of hours this afternoon at one of the local car auction --- planned new road tax bands and fuel costs are not half killing the values of big cars & 4x4s. Even quite oridinary 1.8s are affected.
Hurrah, that'll totally waste the trade-in value of the mrs 2.0L Alfa. Well, provided I can keep the damn thing running long enough to get it there
I took a gamble and bought one last week, my gamble was the government would do a u-turn on car tax, and now it seems they have and it cost me next

Could be some interesting big-engined donors about then. I've often wondered about doing a Locost styled XJ8 based car

What a joke the new system will be, where do they honestly expect people to get the money from.

Governments idea is to tax these 'poluting' cars off the road, yet getting rid of cars that already exist and replacing them with newer cars is more damaging to the environment.
At least the increase does not appear to effect pre 2001 cars,so us really poor people running old cars are not effected yet anyway
ah but it isn't as there will be that much tax on the new cars no one can afford to buy one!
I've just seen the dates on the links you guys have posted, it has all changed today, all will be revealed soon by all accounts, watch the news if you get a chance.
I was amazed to see my company Prius costs £15 per year, which is about the same as a 125cc bike!
I strongly suspect the carbon footprint of the Prius may be bigger!
Stu
they're still going ahead with the new tax laws

The really underhand bit is the break points are shifted, with an eye to revenue they didn't just divide the old classes in two but a lot of the
threshold values were moved down.
For example the existing class E was 166-185 g/km and a lot of vehicles were engineered to just fall into this class with emission circa 182 to 184
g/km, the new band J starts at 180 g/km catching a lot vehicles in a much higher taxation bracket.
^^^^ blimey - that's some seriously complicate sh&t for a satruday night!!!
