I have seen a vw1.8 16v engine and a 2.0 vauxhall ecotec engine going cheap

Does anyone have a cad drawing or design of an adapter plate to mate up to a type 9 gearbox?

you can easily just buy a new bell housing for a 2.0 ecotec (the same one as used for the c20xe red top engine)
google "yukspeed" and he can sort you out, or SHP engineering can do them too, and loads of other places tbh
