Help me identify this diff please
82 Locost - 25/5/12 at 08:00 PM

I was told this is an English diff, but it doesn't look like my other diffs (the centre bit is enclosed and it's heavier).

Cheers

have you checked the ratio?

82 Locost - 25/5/12 at 08:37 PM

4.1 is written on it in tipp-ex, which would point to a standard English ratio, but I've never seen one with a bulky lump in the middle. I'm more used to something like this:

LSD?

The way to tell if it's an LSD is to put the half shafts on and turn one if they both move the same way it's an lsd

That is definitely an LSD.
You can see the plates and the split line at the cross-pins in the first photo.

Thanks guys, I'll do the driveshaft check.

I wouldn't bother, it's 100% definitely an LSD.

That's amazing. I didn't even know I had it.

Right. I've just been for another look and it's definately an LSD. However, it's not an English Diff as it's larger but it is a 4.11. It also takes 25 spline half shaft (not 22 spline English). The flange has 8 holes, which appears to allow a small or large prop-shaft flange to fit.

The numbers:

Crown wheel 72VB 4210-aa 9-37
Casing 81VB 4025-AB (I think, it's quite corroded)

Any ideas?

Apparently it's a Transit diff.
