ZX10R Install
maximill666 - 20/7/07 at 11:16 AM

I will shortly be building a MNR Vortx & I have purchased a 2005 zx10r engine to go in it, but I need some advice regarding whether or not it will require any sump mods i.e. Baffle plate or relocate sump drain plug etc?

I have been advised to source a 3.38 open diff but would a 3.62 LSD diff be too short to use with the zx10r gearing? I really want an LSD but dont fancy paying quaife prices.

Also any photos of a zx10r install in any chassis would be appreciated just to get an idea?

Take a look at Bigrich's car. He might be able to help. i think he used a freelander diff.

you will need at least a 3.38 diff or a freelander 3.21 to give the car an acceptable top speed
using a freelander in mine i would presume MNR can cater for that option aswell as the sierra diff.
i have'nt modded my sump for the install but may move the drain plug as its right on the bottom and would gain 3/4 of an inch ground clearence

Bigrich,

Is your diff a standard freelander unit & not upgraded with quaife internals?

Also did you have to get bespoke driveshafts made?

bigrich - 20/7/07 at 11:57 AM

bog stock freelander. to be honest i had a sierra LSD in my last build and thought it was a bit severe in the way it worked on such a light car, so didnt bother on this one. i'm using r888 tyres this time instead of road biased tyes to give more traction.

the driveshafts are custom made to my lenghts with freelander inner joints and sierra trilobe outers, about 150 quid the pair.
the petrol freelander has smaller/lighter joints than the diesel also, guess which i used

also have a look at PAUL FISHERS build pics and his turbo Zx10r install bonkers

Bigrich,

Where did you have them done & was that £150 for complete driveshafts inc cv's etc or did you have to supply them?

maximill666 - 20/7/07 at 12:12 PM

I've been looking at going down the turbo or supercharger route myself, I see you can get complete kits from the states for half of what you pay here, but have heard of people waiting a long time for delivery & getting hammered for import tax etc.

bigrich - 20/7/07 at 12:15 PM

they were made by the engineer who does mac#1s machine work and were just the shafts as all the joints i had from the doner parts i just refurbished them and fitted new gaitors etc

MNR has the option of both Sierra and Freelander

Cheers,

not sure of the costs of a turbo kit but i think paul would tell you of any problems or pitfalls of importing one from the US of A. maybe worth a U2U

maximill666 - 20/7/07 at 12:28 PM

Bigrich,

I dont suppose you made any notes for future reference when you did the engine wiring did you?

bigrich - 20/7/07 at 12:35 PM

i just had a black and white line diagram of the bike harness and adapted it to fit the car and switches etc,not really that hard but i do like wiring and i get to do the wiring fault jobs at work so its all in my head unfortunately but if you want advise then u2u me at that stage of your build and i will assist you where i can

Im an electrical engineer so I should be able to get through it ok, but If I get stuck I now know who to ask

Thanks
