From Luton to Sheffield

Driving the Indy up to Sheffield from my parents in Luton tomorrow.

Dont fancy sitting on the M1 dodging trucks for 2 hours. So need to come up with an alternative route.

Was thinking about going up the A6 round Bedford and on to Kettering. Then head towards Melton Mowbray then off towards Grantham and the rest of the way on the A1 until Worksop.

Could cut across to the A1 earlier but its a bit boring.

Any other suggestions of routes or good roads.

Just hope the weather holds out till lunch time. Can only do it tomorrow really as I have a day off work and away this weekend again.

I do this run very often as my HQ are based in Hemel... Jnctn 8

By far the best route is the M1 - I've tried the alternatives but they just take SO long and are just as boring.

The b 6047 from market harborough to melton is a very good road if not to busy, you could go kettering, market harborough, melton and across from melton to Grantham. The A1 would still be boring though.

I think I will see if the weather gets any better around midday. If it does I might try one of the interesting routes. If not I will just go up the M1 or A1 and get it over and done with.
