Learner driver
hi all, im taking my brother inlaw out driving tonight in the tintop, hes a learner driver,
i have got him insured on the car, im insured, 22, have had a full license since i was 17 and 3 months, i have 3 points,
other than L plates have i forgotten anything?

nope that all sounds fine.
The only limits is you must be 21 and have held the license for more than 3 years, you fulfill both those so youll be fine

A little known fact is that as the responsible person in the car, you have to be able to pass a breathalyser test and can be done for drinking and
driving even if you are not at the wheel.

has your B-I-L had any lessons? Without duel controls i'd be loath to take someone out for the first few lessons.
My dad waited till i'd had a few lessons and then took me to an industrial estate where i practised my parallel parking (with some cones
he'd made up so there was no risk to any other cars) and reverse parking.
Once he'd got some confidence with me driving round the estate on a sunday morning we went on the roads.

and you can't be drunk or using your mobile (and that is general advice too - don't use your mobile when drunk, especially for texting!)

Only my opinion but not the best thing to do, go with a recognised driving school, the last thing you want is to teach him any bad habbits which
believe me you will in your short time of driving picked up.
like I said only my opinion and I don't work for a diving school.

cheers for the advice guys,
hes had about 10 hours of lessons now and just wants to practice manouvers round the estate, only got him on the insurance for a week.
i reminded my partners dad of that drink driving rule when he was taking her out and taking a beer with him! hadnt thought about the mobile phone one
though,
i have spoken to his driving instructor and he has asked what to practice, so even if he gets a few hours to practice reversing round a corner etc it
will be nice,

I'd strongly suggest a quiet industrial estate as opposed to a housing estate. If he's learning you probably don't want bored kids
watching / offering advice, nor do you want to risk him running over a random cat or hitting someone driving home down the street.

Empty car Parks are good for Manouvering.
They have these nice white lines all set out for backing into.
Use a nice clear empty one, so there is nothing to back into, including bollards, and signposts.
My local council office car park was great (took my sons over there) until they put a barrier on it. Tesco's is good if you go the right times.
Otherwise its a nightmare with uninsured shopping trolleys to deal with as an added bonus.
Agreed with the quiet areas, it allows the learner to concentrate on the job rather than the traffic / kids / obstructions.
Its safer for him /the public / and your car!
Take your time, and keep calm!

hi guys thanks for the advice, had a really good 1hr and a half drive, really impressed by his driving! very sensible and calm in situations,
