First 'Long' drive

Well, had the car on the road for a couple of months now, had many little jaunts, but today, took it to visit my parents and brothers at a family 'get together' -

lovely weather, took folks for little trips and drives in it (unashamedly showing it off!) got lots of nice comments, and the car behaved perfectly over the 115 miles (Blackpool to Warrington and back).

Great day out for me and the car!!!

Now might be a good time to check the security of all your nuts , bolts etc. You would be suprised how many need tightening

I usually check all fasteners with a felt-tip pen in my hand - when I've checked one, I mark it. When I think I've done them all, I go around and find all the ones that don't have ink on them! There's usually a few...

Good ideas like that are usually simple ones - also like the ear muff idea of yours on my other contemporary thread - my ears took a battering today - steady 80 / 85 on the motorway sets up quite a volume, doesn't it?

I found that my ears were singing - tinnitus, I guess - after a fast trip. Ear muffs may look odd, but I find that earplugs get uncomfortable after a while. I do have skinny pair of muffs from when I used to go rifle shooting (it's hard to get your cheek onto the rifle stock with industrial muffs) and they can be folded up when not in use, which is a bonus.

As for marking the fasteners - I did that before the SVA, and the inspector did ask why there were red marks everywhere. I hope he was impressed!

I have Very expensive CIC hearing aids in both ears so, as you might imagine, I have had lots of ear issues over the years - including at one stage the dreaded tinnitus. - rules out using ear plugs, but I have 2 sets of ear muffs (industrial type) so going to give it a try on the next motorway stint, Cheers David.

Sounds like fun. Nice trip out always makes me happy. Did about 130 miles today over woodhead to Sheffield and back with tommyp and my 2 kids as passengers in each car. They loved it .

Tippex type pens are good for marking the nuts. And if you draw a line over the top of the bolt too you can tell visually if one is coming undone. Nice and quick to check.
