Why is it..

that when your blatting about, and in the middle of nowhere you come up behind some duffer going along at 23mph.. you wick past and all you get is him leaning on the horn and trying to blow his high beam bulbs?

Why is that??????

People really don't like being passed it seems.

Especially if the move you make is outwith their concept of what is possible.

Best just to move out, make it clear the move's happening and give it the full beans.
Nobody can honestly criticse that.

I'm all for overtaking in a defnitive manner.

It's a sorry state of affairs but when I am calculating if I can make an overtake I have to allow for the fact the fool infront will invariably speed up putting my life at risk. I don't het why people do that. On the odd occasion I am moving slower than the car behind I slow if they try and pass to help them.

I bet if I had a head on collision causes by some
muppet accelerating it would be me who got done for recless driving!

Because alot of people do things that make absolutely no sense, especially when it comes to driving. What you should have done is stopped, blocking him in of course, and gotten out to ask him what he was trying to signal with the horn and lights to see if he could come up with something more useful than the fact that you'd passed him.

Thats the biggest problem with going out for a drive for fun though, there is always someone doing something stupid to ruin it for you. On my favourite stretch of road (The long way to my Grand parents house) it's usually Lorries taking a 'Short cut' at less than 30 on a beautiful stwisty bit of road with a 60 limit and brilliant visability but nowhere wide enough to pass, and barely room to pass a lorry going the other way in a car.

The only thing that pisses me off more is the knobs that completely ignore changing speed limits so you get stuck behind them, then have them shoot off when the limit drops, only to catch up with them later. That said it's worse when you start infront of them and look in your mirror to see a lorry rapidly closing on you when your doing just over the limit or on the motor way where they feel the need to overtake everyone through the road works.

I was out on the bike doing 50 in a 50 limit when a BMW decided I wasn't going fast enough and blasted past me. When he caught up with the duffer doing 35 and couldn't get past I just carried on at 50 and waved as I went past. The duffers do have their uses

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

It's very odd, but no matter what the speed, people hate being passed. They want to be in front! I don't know why that is, but a psychologist can come along and explain it to me. I would much rather have people pass me and get on with it, so they can have their accident far ahead of me than go up my rear end.

I do most of my driving either in heavy town traffic or on the motorway so passing isn't really an issue.
But I've recently started doing some longish trips on 60mph single carriageway roads and have noticed that drivers nowadays just don't know how to pull out and pass ( or are too scared to ) so you get a long line of cars stuck behind someone doing 55mph and they're so close together there's no room to pass them one by one and pull in.
Today's drivers are so spoilt by dual carriageways and motorways that they can't make progress on a single carriageway.

I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

You can double the entertainment by pulling in a short way up the road and waiting for said doddering driver to pass you. Then slip back out and repeat the pass (when safe to do so of course)

I agree with nick205's philosophy, but I normally give those lovely folk a wag of the finger and a wry smile to chastise them for the erroneous ways

I find a cheery wave and thumbs up leaves them far more confused

I've also noticed some people get very upset if they can even see you make overtake whilst they are oncoming, never mind that there is massive amount of distance to safely perform the overtake.

My favorite incident happened some years ago whilst I was on my way to work to find two cars that were apparently quite content to follow a slow moving lorry. At the first opportunity I overtook the first car and then pulled back in. I noticed the woman driving the Escort in front of me was absolutely fixated on watching me in her mirror as I dropped back a little and waited for the next overtaking opportunity. Mrs Escort continued to stare into her mirror up to the point that she literally veered into the hedge kicking up mounds of dirt and making the whole car jump up, swiftly followed by a violent lurch into oncoming traffic and then a last second swerve back into her own lane. The best bit is that she decided this was somehow my fault and started ranting and shaking her fist at me!
