What a nice man...

I was driving my tin-top home from the station on Wednesday night, in automatic pilot and generally going at the same speed as everyone else, when I came round a corner and saw a police car... cop standing alongside, with a speed-detecting gizmo held to up to his eye...

Waved me in, asked me the usual "what is the speed limit on this road, sir?" blah, blah, I did the usual "yes sir, no sir" bit, then he ended up saying "well, you weren't doing a great deal above 30mph (my speedo said 42 just before the corner!) so take this as a warning and be careful in future". Phew!

However, he did say that the main reason he was there was to catch speeding bikers heading for the Wednesday night meeting at Great Bentley in Essex - and he was about 15 miles from there! If anyone on here goes to that meeting, watch out - they're really getting keen over a BIG radius around the venue...

You obviously have a nice "innocent" face David Lucky break though when you consider some people get ticketed for lower speeds

I don't think the bikers will be saying the same about him

Certainly not the ones I flashed my lights and waved at further down the road!

(allegedly)

Was it the hill coming from Cattawade ?
As for Wed bike night I don't bother taking the car out as it's too risky with the bikers coming round the corners on my side of the road.
Driven thru Gt Bentley where they all collect. Hundreds of the buggers.

Near enough - on the Manningtree side of the Brantham Bull, just across the railway bridge.

I saw dozens of bikes last night during my 5 mile jouorney, but all of them were behaving themselves - motoring on, but well-placed on the road and well-spaced apart.

In my opinion this kind of traditional policing would encourage proper speed control. I know it's expensive to us Taxpayers, but at least a little common sense (human touch) can be applied... if A.I. could be applied to Speed Cameras on say a ratio (200 cars/hour (day)/10 cars/hour (night) with variable maximum speed rating, then IMO this would be more a more relevant speed and increase driving alertness/concentration and maybe bring a lot of people back on to the Polices' side...

Absolutely! Also, if you know that you were speeding when you were pulled over, it makes the 'experience' more human, rather than an automatically-generated notice suddenly appearing through the letterbox.
