Goodwood track day today.
Just got back from Goodwood having had a fantastic day out.
Passed the 105db noise test at 100db - I was one of the louder cars on track
It was a very wet start and I discovered why they are called bucket seats. It was like trying to drive on ball bearings for the first session. Note
to self - 580kgs, 192bhp and R888's don't really work on standing water
Wheel spinning in 3rd down pit straight at 60mph was very interesting!
Once it dried out it was a different story. Loads of grip and huge fun It was a 25 car day run in sessions of 5 cars so not much over taking but
it allowed you to perfect the lines and braking points.
It's a very, very fast curcuit with small run-offs so no room for error. I got an indicated 130mph before braking very hard into the right
hander at Woodcote.
Some very nice cars on track with me and most drivers had done a large number of track days before whereas this was only my second. A really nice
bunch of guys.
The Ultima, Westfield XTR and 250bhp Duratec Westfield really stuck in my mind and where all but impossible to catch. Likewise the V10 Audi S8 and
Lexus IS F were a real surprise. Very fast, very quiet and handled very well too - these where topping out at 150+.
I was easily seeing 100+ down pit straight and through Fordwater flat. Lavant Corner is very rewarding when you get the lines right and is much faster
than you think!
Braking from 130 into Woodcote is a real test of nerve. I'm not sure I ever the the braking point sorted out.
What a fantastic day Thanks to SWMBO for a wonderful birthday present.
