MPG run...
Decided to take advantage of the weather today and go for a run down the motorway to see what MPG I am getting from the locost.
Filled up tank (20L) and got on M5 at jct 5 heading southbound. Did a steady 70mph all the way down to michael wood services where I had enough of the
wind blasting my face! A quick check in the oil catch tank and I set back off, leaving and rejoining the northbound side at the next junction (14).
Got back to strensham services (jct8) and decided to fill up. Had to put 19 litres in to fill it up. Now I had the data I needed I decided to put the
hammer down to get back lol.
Mileage from fill up to fill up was 90 miles.
Asuming 19 litres is 4.17 gallons I reckon I was getting 21.58 MPG?
Spec wise the crossflow is 1700, running race head, 234 cam and twin 40 webers.
Not sure what to make of this figure - better than what I thought it would be but now I can put a price on the miles I am doing!

Ouch! Was that 70mph "70" or were you keeping up with the traffic?
I'm getting high 20s in my BEC at the moment cruising at 4-5krpm and I'm not impressed. There's a whole load of Emerald ECU coming
my way shortly....

Low thirties on a run here, 1.8 zetec on CBR600 carbs. "Much" less if I have no passenger

Was 70 off the speedo. there were a couple of 50 sections, didn't really like them as the temp started to rise and I know my acewell temp gauge
is waaaay off any kind of accuracy.
Need to get it back on the rolling road next month as it spits fuel back out the carbs sometimes at light throttle. Hoping to fit a dash with a
accurate temp gauge soon too!

My carbed R1 BEC would do 30 on a B road blast. I got 35 when running it in after a big end rebuild. Even on the track it only dropped to 20 MPG.
I'm constantly surprised how bad CEC sevens are on fuel.

Yep....
Prawnable....that does seem about right....I have a 1300 crossflow on twin 40's, that does about 25mpg.
The newer but bigger engines, are much more fuel efficient as technology has progressed, not like our 'old skool' crossflows.

35mpg on a run from my 2.3 T5 engine. Getting close to single figures on track if I really give it some though

Thats DCOE's for ya When I switched from twin 40's to throttle bodies on my crossflow powered Fury it went from under 30mpg ot close to
50mpg at cruising speeds
All I am looking at mapping-wise on the V6 is getting reasonable fuel consumption - I just cant afford to drive it while its doing less than 30mpg

Sound low to me - I get about 38 - 40 on average [2.0 Zetec on ZX6R carbs].

Its out of an XJS which according to the brochure (normally exagerated) the can do 36 on a run.
My car should be half the weight, as, if not better aerodynamics and a manual so im aiming for 40

I have a 1660 x-flow in a modest state of tune, with CBR600 bike carbs. I usually get somewhere around 25mpg, so you're not far out.
If you really want to see what mpg it's capable of, don't drive at 70mph! Find yourself a country road and do a steady 50 - 55 mph.
Don't over-rev it, gentle acceleration, change early and drive as smoothly as you can manage - engine braking rather than pedal braking, and
plan ahead to maintain momentum without braking and subsequent acceleration.
Mind you - doing all that only got me up to 30mpg!
I also got bored...

I'm pleased when I get more than 20mpg out of mine when I'm taking it easy. I'd swear the fuel pump is connected directly to the
exhaust sometimes.

christ, my 1600nova does 40mpg on the road on a calm run, about 34 on a blat and about 22 on track!
If I get below 25mpg tank average on the road with the locost Im gonna cry

sounds low to me. Our 2.0 pinto on 40's did over 30mpg on the way to lemans this year, speeds ranging from 70-90mph all the way.

Its rolling roaded at 137bhp at the wheels, if we get another decent weekend I might try a slowish run down to weston of somewhere in that area to see
what it will do at that speed!
Lost count of the waves I got, even had a guy on an yahama crotch rocket of some description zoom passed me then slow down to give me the thumbs
up!
