BAD NEWS!!
Rumours abound around sunny Buxtonville (backed up by the front page of the Buxton Advertiser)that the Cat & Fiddle, along with the Buxton-Leek road
are going to get speed cameras as part of Derbyshires long term plan to prevent anyone driving anywhere at all faster then 50 mph (as long as the
touroids can manage even that!) and that no-one should be so politically incorrect as to have fun whilst driving at any speed.
Drive it now whilst you still can!!
I am sad to report that there isn't a cat in hell's chance that my car will be finished before this sad event occurs.

Apparently the weapon of choice against Gatso's is the tyre hung over it and the bottom of the tyre filled with unleaded and "somehow" catching
fire.
Quick and easy, but of course illegal, so I don't want to hear about anyone on here being done for it. Stories of ones you've seen destroyed,
however will be welcomed!!
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

problem with that is its arson. The law is pretty heavy on that.
Another technique is to whack it with a paintball gun.
I have wondered also what a metal disk with epoxy on it, on the end of a convenient pole, for installation, would do, stuck on the lens aperture.
in the one of two ocassions I looked in max power (we have had this discussion, so the ribbing is old...) they were suggesting tin foil covered boards
standing in front of the cam. This allows arranged fast speeding runs, but isnt damaging the camera, just kinda obstructing its view a bit.

I often travel a road through Longton (or somewhere like that on the edge of stoke) where they have about 5 speed cameras in about a mile!!
Was chuffed to see when I passed through on tuesday that someone had covered them all with black poly bags and parcel tape.
Although some poor repair man was trying to remove it all - when I passed by on wednesday at least one of them was covered again.
Glad to see that someone (obviously someone less worried about getting caught than me) is taking action to disarm the blased things.

Yes I visited Stoke a while ago and could not believe how many there were on some stretches of road, I thought we had it bad in northamptonshire.I
managed not to get nabbed but it would be very easy for someone from out of the area to get caught out, i suppose that the locals know all the
locations as we do in northants, and the cameras only catch people who are passing through the area so therefore dont really deter speeding.

Not only get nabbed - It would be possible to go from a clean licence to a ban in half a mile!!

In my part of Australia speed cameras are usually put in the back of a van and parked by the side of the road for the day.
One person took the plates off the van and drove up and down in front of the van at high speed. The traffic division received lots of tickets for the
speed camer van, and were not impressed.

Bloke in the paper was fined £4000 for downing one this week. That would buy a lot of bits.

No need to go that far, dunno how easy the heads on them turn, but on a stretch of road in Leeds which has a big yellow camera every few hundred yards
the things are never ever pointing at the road, the local yoof have them facing over the pavement towards the houses.
Another thought, what would happen if the white lines on the road were accidentally painted black!

My mate Phil got nicked last year on the A515 Buxton road. He was doing 96 when the police clocked him and he had to appear at Buxton magistrates cos
it was his second offence in 6 months, the other one was 42 in a 30 limit. He got a 3 week ban and is now paranoid to the point of dangerous cos he
spends more time looking at the speedo than the road.

Living in the US we don't have to deal with speed cameras very much... I really feel for you all though - I hate to imagine what it would be
like...

Rally speed traps.
Did you see the paper on Wednesday about the World Rally in Wales last November. Sainz, Makinen and Burns all nicked for speeding between stages.
Burns was speeding in 5 different limits and faces a ban, 19 drivers altogether. They were all adjourned till this November, probably so they can do
them again.

I have often wondered what would happen if the glass cover over the camera was sprayed with grease from an aerosol. Wouldn't do any lasting harm
to the camera, but would probably make the pictures difficult to use.

Mmmmm. And then the alarm went off and it was time to go to work.....
I very much doubt that whoever gets in at the next election will get rid of speed cameras, they 'earn' far too much money for 'em.
They will be promising to get the NHS back into shape next...
Dont just build it.....make it!
