col de turini
OMG
i cant really explain or possess the verbal skills to describe what its like ....
youll just have to go yourself .
it was a long raod trip , travelling from barcelona to nice , overnight , then straight into sospel and moulinet to do the WRC stages in jan 2012
(hopefully returning) . went up to the col de turini , did the circuit of l'authian , which takes you pretty close to the italian border and
some old ww2 fortifications .
the down the other side to vesubie , and onto the luceram stage , its a complete eye opener and with it being so dramatic and completely clear and
sunny at the end of november !!!
pretty cold tho in the shade .......
highly , HIGHLY recomended. i have video and pics which will get uploaded sometime soon .
oh and the video was taken with a £12 ebuyer special too after a recomendation on here!!!!
what an awesome place - still cant believe it .
I thought Andorra was pretty special at the top being the 10th highest mountain pass in europe , but the col de turini just surpassed it in every way
. ill see if i can put some google links on so you can appreciate it a bit more .

Did this a couple of years back in a hire car and loved every minute . I hope to take the kitten over next year and do the napoleon route from geneva
to monaco then onto Spain and ferry back to Portsmouth, did you get anywhere near the verdon gourges ?

no , we basically went into monaco - visited the boutique which was bloody closed !!! then up into sospel .

we were recceing the stages for 2012 WRC , the run down into luceram , without doubt the scariest thing ever .....
anyway , im sure our stage times were competitive !!!

Did this many years ago with a friend in a 2.8i Capri and a big euro road trip. It's an incredible bit of scenery.
Went from Calais to Reims (to see the old circuit) then all the way down to Marseille and along the south coast stopping at Cannes, Nice etc. through
Monaco, the Col de Turnini then on to Genoa, Millan, then up through the Stelvio, across to Cortina then to Vienna for a few days then back across
Austria to Germany and worked our way back to Calais. 2 weeks and quite a lot of petrol, but it was a great trip.

That'll be a hoot Dave!!  I did the 'Canyon de Verdon' in a BMW hire car a few years ago. It'd only done about 100kms when
I picked it up. It was well and truly 'ran in' when I returned it!!  I did the 'Route Napoleon' in the Monte also and onto
Bilbao for the ferry back. I think it's the N260 that you want to follow along the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, top roads!!

how much driving did you do a day? looking at this route roughly for next year

I think it was a bit over 2000 miles in total and we probably averaged about about 300 miles on the days we drove. I had an extra load of driving as
my friend lived in Norwich so drove up there prior to the trip and drove back afterwards. Apart from the thirst the Capri was an excellent tool for
the job, it would cruise at 100mph all day (and did so!)...at least until the wheel bearings started rumbling. A quick strip down and re-pack with
grease in a camp site and they rumbled on for another 1500miles.
We stopped in Vienna for 2 days, and I think we stopped at Lake Garda for a day, and also spent a day in Millan (F1 practice just happened to be on
when we were there, wasn't planned though). We really wanted to visit Budapest, but it was just too far, we could have done with another week
really.
I did another trip a couple of years ago with another friend, this time meeting up with some other friends at the Nurburgring, then south down through
Germany to the Neuschwanstein castle at the edge of the Alps (the one on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), then over several of alpine passes including the
Stelvio again, through Switzerland and eventually back up through France stopping in Paris for a day (first time for me).
Both times we used camp sites, and never had any problems. I'm not much of an adventurer, but I had an incredible time on both occasions. If
you are thinking about this I strongly urge you to make some solid plans, book the holiday and do it.

I still remember the smoke starting to pour off my body work near the exhaust manifold after a very hard blast up it and realising I needed to go for
a cooling off drive ASAP before the car started to combust!
