luck finally runs out
So, at last, after 31years driving I got a speeding ticket.
Not a gatso (I seem to be able to spot them) it was a transit on the town side of the limit sign on the way out of Llanrwst driving towards
betws-y-coed. 37 in a 30
It's an expensive lesson in learning to recognise a mobile trap, I saw it WAY too late. Mind you I could easily have been doing over 60 there-
nice road & quiet at 9am on a saturday.....
BTW being welsh they've sent me 2 of everything, english AND welsh. Hope they don't expect me to pay twice!
It's a shame - I was quite proud of my record, 31 years with no points and no insurance claims. They should be giving me awards, not fixed
penalties.......

did the road need traffic monitoring - or just for raising money
bit tight though, sitting on the exit speed sign

Hard luck!
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before there's only a few people left without a speeding conviction.
Or if this government had it's way we would all be driving speed restricted cars!!

Hope I can boast 31 years without a ticket.... at the moment I have 29 years...... although i've only been driving for 5 of them so I'm
guessing the other 24 don't count?
Bad luck thou mate. How much is the fine?
Who the f**K tightened this up!

34 years driving without a speeding ticket, must try harder . I've written 3 cars off (4 if you count the one I hit) and had due care and
attention for it though. I've had 2 cars stolen as well so the insurance side is not clean but I'm on full no claims now.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Bob,
Sorry to here of your woe.
If it's where you come out of town after Llys-y-Wennol on the right then it's on the list, perhaps a gismo is the order of the day.

Yeah - that's another ballsup - I've got checkpoint & tomtom and the location is on there - but I hadn't got it switched on.
Mind you - after a life of undiscovered crime I don't feel too hard done by!
I think it's 50notes and 3 points - time will tell!

Thats the last thing the government want....
that would be a logical thing to do as it would reduce road death massively, however too much revenue would be lost

I would not be too sure about that. This is from the PSNI (Police Northern Island) report into the causes of accidents.
"The most common causes of injury collisions in 2004/05 were ‘inattention’ (1,492 collisions), ‘emerging from a minor road/driveway without
care’ (580 collisions) and ‘excessive speed having regard to conditions’ (497 collisions)."
Simply put there are three times as many accidents caused by not looking where you are going as by going too fast. I would imagine that driving round
in a car fitted with speed limiting would lead to more crashes as concentration levels fall.

quite true there gazza, i find it hard to pay attention when doing 30mph on the bigger 30 roads - 40 would still be safe and stuff would be passing at
a rate that keeps you watching, whereas at 30 your eyes wander.
I think that the problem is really misuse of speed, rather then simple excessive speed.

fair comments guys, but mobile speed traps and cameras do not make the roads safe from dimwits that don't concentrate while they drive.
Ask yourself this; if you drove averywhere at 25mph would you have an accident and are you likely to kill another road user?
No, of course not....SPEED KILLS simple as that.

I don't entirely agree, if we ALL drove around at 25, then yes that would be safe, it is speed differential that is the danger, try driving at
25 on a motorway. If we had upper and lower limits, say 60-90 on a motorway, then it would be safer, the limits would have to be rigourously
enforced.
Anyway, its not speed that kills, its the rapid slowing down that does it
No, of course not....SPEED KILLS simple as that.

What a complete and utter load of #@%$!!!
IF you have an accident increased speed gives an increased risk of injury and/or death.
But speed in itself is not the cause of all accidents.
Driving everywhere within the speed limit would not cure this country of road related accidents or injuries/deaths caused by the same.
"Speed kills" is a simple statement that the Governement is using in an attempt to influence the public and make speeding a crime with
similar social status to drink driving (which deserves such status).
In my opinion anyone who believes this retoric should think about the complexity of the issues surrounding driving and ask whether ONE FACTOR can
really be to blame.

speeding slightly increases the chances of a crash (though the crash could be caused by the speeder or the snail), but the excess speed can make the
difference between a minor or major crash.

was it a 50 zone with roadworks? if so, its entirely reasonable to have cameras. If not, there should be none - motorways are not the place for speed
cameras, as variable conditions obviously dont need an enforced fixed speed. But with roadworks, i expect nothing less - imagine it was you working in
the road with you back turned, and people going through at full chat stuff that!

Yep, it was a 40 limit.
But, as someone pointed out in the paper today, it's a fine idea to protect workmen doing their job, we'd all expext that, however, remove
the limit (AND the cameras) when no-one is working.
When I went down the M4 a couple of years ago there was about 25 miles of roadworks, you'd need a couple of thousand workmen to justify the
limit/cameras.
