track day noise test at donnington
can anyone tell me where the sound meter is posistioned for noise tests on track days? i'm guessing they have some kind of set level and
distance from vehicle to test?
also does anyone know where abouts on the track they check noise levels at donnington?

usually 0.5m from the tailpipe at a 45° angle (to the rear). Some places vary.
Noise limits at donnington are often 98 dB(A) but not always.

Hi one is verry close to the start finish line and rumours are there is an other one down by the old hairpin. The limit is as said 98 db and they are
quite strict on that .

i herd it was 105db.... but work on 98db. they are strict on noise levels as they have a set number of days they are allowed without a limit which
they reserve for the bike races and other big things like festivals which earn them massive amounts of money! seems silly that you can drive up to the
track past all the houses at 110db at the sva level but when ur 2 miles away from the nearest town ur breaking the rules if u go on the track :S

level is 95 db, but most race locost are below that as witnessed on the track day before our race day

It's 98dB drive by (I should know I've been chucked off enough times to know!). The static test of 95dB sometimes has to be passed to
actually get you on the track (they don't always do it). Passing the static test still doesn't guarantee you get past the drive by meters
though.

Yes they are strict, the sound meters are on Starkeys Bridge and next to the gantry (currently sporting some sort of pork product advert if I
remember) on the start finish straight. Rumour has it there may be one other meter somewhere on the circuit as well.

looks like i might have issues up there then. it's only cost me £5 for the day so no great loss if so.
bought a cheapy sound meter off ebay along with a dB killer, fitted the db killer and it actually appears to make the situation worse.
tempted to get one of them bolt on extra silencers but even they don't garantee to make a difference.

Just take it easy, don't let the engine get to to higher revs near the sound meters... Then when you've decided to call it a day, thrash
the nuts off it and see if you get black flagged..
