Track Day Insurance

As my birthday is fast approaching my wife has bought me a track day at Lydden on the 24th May.

I've not been on a track day before so who offers the best Track Day Insurance and what sort of cost should I expect to pay?

Do tracks sell petrol or are you allowed to leave, fill-up and re-join?

I believe "Competition Car Insurance" are the standard separate insurance people buy if your exising insurer won't offer track day cover.

However I seem to recall that it was something like 150 quid or so for a days cover, and then a silly excess (over £1000) and only covered body damage, not engine damage etc so if you have a frontend and stuff your radiator and pulleys etc they'll only fix the bumper.

There may be others, and it depends on what car you're taking out as to whether it's worth buying insurance or not based on the value of the car. but if you do take out any then check the smallprint and make sure you know what is and isn't covered.

As for petrol, some track sell their own (at silly prices), like cadwell etc, but there's no problem with you leaving, filling and coming back - you'll have a wristband to let you on track.

A couple of full 20 litre jerry cans will stop you needing to keep popping in and out and wasting track time. I still them where the passenger would go
