He (only) broke his arm.

Video has been posted a couple of times, Hurrah for a well designed full cage.

Saw a crash exactly like that at Oulton Park a few years back, came to rest on the barrier right by me just after the first corner.

The poor guy was killed

seeing things like that and hearing of people getting killed in these cars makes me think twice about carrying on with my build.

Life is too short to worry about "what if". My last year has changed my outlook on life a lot - when things happen that make you realise that you could run over by a bus tomorrow, or struck down with a major/terminal illness.

If your car is your passion then keep at it and don't worry about what ifs. If it isn't then I guess you have to then balance the perceived risks to see if you think it is all worth it.

I agree. I drive loads of miles with work, I've raced cars, I do trackdays etc etc but my sister who drove very little by comparison was killed in her Alfa on an A road 7.5 years ago. Rather than make me worry about everything, it has made me more determined to live for today! I appreciate it's not for everyone, but that's my view now.

Also, people die in kitcars, and it gets posted around all the time for everyone to hear about. Kitcar Telegraph.

However a stupid number of people die in tintops several times a day, and no one bats and eye lid.

I knew Catering vans were fast, but he overtook that guy sideways on.
Glad he wasn't badly hurt.

would be interesting to see how a normal roll bar would stand up to that kind of punishment in a simulated environment. i have a feeling it wouldnt be pretty.

am seriously considering fitting a full cage now!

That video has been around a while. I raced in the caterham academy this year and one of the guys in group 2 had a very similar accident at donnington park. Think he went over 5 times just coming round the right hander at the bottom of craners. Was really not nice to stand watching that from the bank. But the car stood up well and he came out with very minor injuries, although he was knocked out in the crash.

So if it's a track car, get a full cage. Wouldn't be without mine. These cars can and do roll! just my 2p's worth.

Ben.
