who says pinto's are slow
It's been a while lads, but i've been building some miles.
went out with Eddie my boy this afternoon, both of us over 6' and 17 stone  .
after a bit of a drive to warm the engine up  we found a deserted stretch of road near home, a very quiet single track access road with new
tarmac .
well it was bone dry, i looked over and got the double thumbs up so i pulled up gave it 4k and dropped the clutch
wheel spin in first and second very very fast.
after a few runs to warm the tires i gave eddie the watch and off we went B~~~~r missed the change 1st to 2nd but still made 5 seconds to 60
turned round and started again well some where between 4 and 5 seconds to 60. not bad for a pinto powered indy with 35 stone in it .
need to complete the running in and get it tuned on a rolling road then try and time it properly.
i'm very happy with the pinto power

sounds very good. What power is it putting out? I would say the weight of you two sitting over the back axle helped the traction. Very impressive
though.
my aim is to build my own locost wether it takes me a week or 10 years to get started, i'm sure i will sometime

well i have to confess it's not standard
it was build by vulcan, it's a 2.1 with a stage 3 head (maxi flow) big valves, lightened and ballanced with twin 45's and an fr32 cam.
supposed to put out 160 to 165 bhp but with loads of torque.
the other thing is that i have the rev limiter set 700 rpm below max power to prevent me getting to enthusiastic
once i've got more than 2000 miles on the clock and given it another service i will move the rev limiter upto 7200 not 6000 rpm.

in only 9 stone and i have a similar set up accept i was running bike carbs and not 45's and i got 4.8 seconds and it wasn't even tuned!

I'm running a similar spec 2.1 Pinto in my Westy, 172bhp at the last r.road.

i have to admit that i was suprised at the performance as i think with the revs limited this low it's putting out about 150 to 155 bhp. with
more power and revs it will get faster.
we only stopped because the clutch was beginning to make funny noises and smells.
it's the mid range punch thats the most impressive as it has so much torque. and make short work of the straights.

Nowt Wrong with a Pinto it's proven engineering
Mates Westy has a 170 brake Pinto with a Quaife gearset in His Type 9 and the thing flies
Seems to Keep up with my 220 brake VX no problem..
