Driving Test!

I've got my LGV driving test coming up... I'm a bit worried about the hazard perception bit and also the 4 parts there is now to getting on the road (inc Driver CPC)

Anyone done any of the new tests? How did you find it??

I'm a worried man....

Steve,

Dave does the hazard perception bit and
says you sit at a computer and click on the hazards while sitting in a virtual car.

I know its HGV but it can't be that different.
The company me and John work for are
putting us through CPC next year, easy
for me to say mate but your not stupid, dont worry you will sail through

Andy

What about the really difficult bit where you have to learn how to tail gate any car stupid enough not to get immediately out the way with your headlights blazing.

And what about the speed perception test which means you can only overtake another lorry if you're going between 0.001 and 0.005 mph faster than it is.

And don't forger the timing perception test which means you should only indicate 0.66 seconds before pulling out in front of a car (making sure there's something in the outer lane so they can't swerve out of the way).

ps Good luck

I had a go at this recently; have to say the hazard perception thing is bloody hard till you get into it. Don't assume you will just pass, there's a knack to it. I failed miserably at first despite 4 years driving city busses, mostly from me reacting too quickly or not considering them worthy hazards! Well worth buying and it has all the 200 or so videos they use at the test center. I'm sure you have to do them also for the HGV test.

I passed before hazard perception, but i have friend who had to do the test. Originally all you had to do was keep touching the screen!

I got kicked off the hazard perception thing for cheating, and then I realised they're looking for an actual hazard, not a potential one like they said.

I clicked between every parked car (a small child could run out), the cyclist (looking over your shoulder means you're turning right, now) and every oncoming car (the only thing I trust other drivers to not do is the Foxtrot)

Basically something will happen like a bunch of sheep will wander into the road or a cyclist will jump in front of you.

I had to take the hazard test when I did my HGV licenses and there is definitely a knack to it. I misunderstood it at first and was expecting just one hazard so missed loads. There is only a window of a few seconds in which to click on each hazard starting so I clicked twice for each but beware if you get click happy, even in the slightest, it boots you off.
Get to the library and borrow the example CD.
