redex result

remember a few weeks ago I mentioned Redex injector cleaner was 1/2 price in Tesco and that I'd tip a bottle into the volvo?

Before the "treatment" the average mileage-ometer (part of trip computer) was showing 25 ish, now it is showing 29 ish.

But do I really believe that? This was not a controlled experiment in any way but a few factors need to be conisdered.

1. Recently I have done a few motorway journeys which cruising at 70 mph gives bigger mpg than the commute but given enough time and commutes, the figure will drop.

2. It is mid-summer so less fuel is used to get engine up to temp - guessing that this is probably quite significant, especially on the commute.

3. I reckon the mpg is computed by working out how long the injector is truned on to inject fuel. Let's say the nozzle(s) were partially blocked before but less blocked after the "treatment" i.e. the hole got bigger. The same amount of fuel would be injected (metered by the ECU) but it would take less time to do so. So the true mpg is the same but computed mpg has gone up.

So conclusion, is it worth doing? Maybe but there was no harm done so it could be £ 1.80 well spent. You decide.

If you regulaly use supermarket fuel I would say give it a tank of good stuff once in a while os stick some red ex through it.

I use asda Derv and every 3 or 4th tank stick 1/2 a bottle of redex in the tank. seems to give the car more go so dont need to hit the go peddal as hard.

Also, does the cleaner have any 'octane' properties, i.e. making your tank full go further, but only for the first tank full.
