Gatso'd!
I rolled passed this camera this morning totally aware of its presence at around 48mph. A68 just before Pathhead...
The bastard thing flashed me!
Now, there was a car on my outside which overtook the truck behind me to turn right.
There is a national speed limit sign just before it so I'm wondering if its very clever and knows I was in a truck?
Truck only does 55mph on the limiter so how can it have flashed as I looked in the nearside mirror?

Wait for the NIP then worry - chances are it wasn't you anyway if this is the case.
If the NIP lands then you were going to fast - can you prove otherwise?

I have been asked a few times by truck drivers how Gatso's know when its a truck going past at the 'lower' speeds.
The only answer we have heard that makes sense is that sometimes the trigger speed for the camera is turned down to catch trucks and any cars that get
flashed obviously don't get the NIP.
Unless someone knows otherwise? As far as I can tell there is no weight / height sensors that could make a Gatso know a truck is there instead ???

my dad was given some information on the camera that caught him and he was told it had sillouette recognition or something. It's able to tell
the size difference between cars and trucks.
It is a newish one though, so slightly more complex than a polaroid on a stand.

there are the distance marker lines in both lanes so they will work out from those who it was that triggered camera.

Sorry to hear it, but I'd say it was fairly likely. They work on radar and it's not exactly hard to work out how big something is on radar
by its reflected signature. I wasn't aware of them being this smart but its far from impossible.
That said I've triggered several of them by going the wrong way through them over the limit, and they never returned a NIP.

Dead on - those clever folk in government think it is much safer to introduce a speed differential between vehicles on the same road - t#ssers

Because hitting a heavier vehicle is much more safer than a heavier vehicle hitting you....... We're all stupid if we dont realise that

Its my pet hate, there is a set of speed cameras near where I live, both on a dead straight fast bit of road. Most cars and trucks are traveling at 70
mph, but as they approach the cameras they all slow to their respective limits, 60mph and 40mph - it causes no end of accidents.
The real reason why the road was dangerous in the fist place is that the road is three lanes, the centre is shared by west AND eastbound traffic so
the closing speed is a minimum of 120mph. £30 of white paint would render the road safe, but they would rather generate revenue than save lives.

I used to trawl up about 3 cars a week from this exact location, just proving how safe the cameras had made the road. Safety partnership my arse.
Its about time someone kicked these buraucratic idiots into reality, its like the police saying it is unsafe for us to answer a mobile call on hands
free, but perfectly safe for them to use radios while driving - the common sense in the country left in about 1985.
PS I was going to attach a google earth image of the location, but the 'browse' button has disappeared again

Didn't realise it's 40mph for HGV's on single lanes!!!!
There I was thinking they're all just asleep lol
I do have to say.. if a policeman showed up ONCE on some stretches of the Fosse Way, it would a) generate a hell of a lot more revenue than the camera
that's blindingly obvious on a straight bit of road, and b) nobody would ever fly down it at 90mph knowing that the last time there was a human
copper catching speeders was in 1993...

You could always take my approach to this problem.
Buy a 1976 Scammell Crusader 150ton tractor, top speed 42mph.
But it doesn't slow down on hills, when pulling under 50 tons!!!

Do you remember if it was a single flash or two flashes?
Most speed cameras have a single flash 'warning' for it you're a few mph over, then when you hit the limit they'll flash twice
and actually take a picture.

Steve, i heard that they turn the speed down occationally and just throw the photos of cars out. New ones will undoubtedly use technology to get you
though. Assuming that your speedo is properly calibrated due to the tacho (most cars arent), you're possibly just into NIP territory.

i know about the van limit(completely ignore it though) but going by the above when towing a trailer behind my transit the limit is also 40.
doesn't sound right, if it is another one to ignore

A lot of these do actually weigh the vehicles and therefore know its a truck, used to have alot of the bin lorries get caught out by this where i used
to work.
Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
