Haynes Roadster Uprights

Hi everyone

Little while ago i got some cortina uprights given to me from my uncle which he had spare from his locost he built a few years ago.

I have now got to wondering weather the front suspension based on the Ron Champion book (which my uncle built) is the same as the Haynes roadster which i am building?

Soooo, can anyone tell me if I can use the Cortina Uprights on the Haynes roadster?

the ron champion book was designed for cortina uprights, the hayn es roadster was designed for sierra uprights,

Geometry is quite different

I have not yet made up my wishbones and was planning to fit the suspension brackets this weekend.

Is it possible for me to adapt the design in anyway?

If so what is required and what are the implications?

They have different geometry.

You might get some other answers over on the Haynes forum. The author of the book is a member and posts regularly

If you sold the Cotina uprights and bought Sierra you'd definitely make a profit, even after buying mushroom adapters.

Are the differences not just the wishbone length then?

As I think you've surmised the top wishbone will definately be different. (Shorter if you use Cortina).

As for the bottom wishbone, it'll need to be different only by the amount the distance between bottom BJ centre and hub face is different between uprights.

So, if the distance between bottom BJ centre and hub face is greater on Cortina than Sierra (as I suspect) then the wishbones will need to be shorter by that amount.
If the Sierra BJ centre to hub is greater than Cortina then the wishbone will need to be longer.

Having said all that it looks like you can get away with only changing the top wishbone.

HTH,
James
