EDIS4 Megajolt
Hi
I have just got a Fisher Fury with a 1.8 Silvertop Zetec on twin 40 DCOE Webers. It backfires some when I decelerate and was advised this may be due
to the ignition system which is EDIS4. I was thinking of getting a Megajolt Kit to upgrade the ignition and was wondering if this would be a straight
swap or would there need to be modifications to make it fit?

Is it fitted with just an Edis module with no control or is it a ford DIS module that looks like an Edis but has a red front and a vacuum pipe
attached?.

As a rule the system you have will have a form of megajolt ecu all be it by another name. The edis4 is integral to the megajolt system and provides a
wasted spark high tension spark to fire the plugs. The symptoms described seem to be unburnt fuel in the exhaust being ignited by the hot gases. This
is a common feature on many engines.

The EDIS module is conected to an electronic box with the Ford logo on it, 6 inches square by 1 inch thick which I suspect is a basic form of ECU?????
Could I just conect the megajolt ECU to the EDIS????

We have a Zetec with bike carbs and megajolt, ours too sounds nice when slowing down  pop pop pop pop

^^^ just open them in your archive and copy and past this bit of text into your post

it does look like a standard ford ecu, I wonder if its just had the fueling part dissconeted (sort of like an unprogramable version of megajolt...)
but what ever it is you can just replace it with a megajolt ecu (or similar) - in fact the EDIS4 will run a static 10 deg. advance with no ecu at all
(fords limp home mode)

have a look at fitting a TPS to your carbs - thats the easiest way to run a 3D map on the megajolt with your twin carb's
(obviously you need the TPS version of a megajolt for that)

TPS is that a Throttle Position Sensor? If I think right that either comes with the kit or is availabe as an extra. I would have to ensure that the
carbs are balanced first though.
Just checked the engine again and there is no toothed wheel or a sensor. So I would have to source a bracket for the sensor and a toothed wheel.

There is somewhere otherwise your EDIS module wouldn't know the engine was running or what revs it was doing.

Also some of the engine, I have searched for a engine number but all I can find is the following 928M-6015-CD
and dont know which model of car the engine came from.

its a "silver-top" zetec - the one that was in all the 16v escorts and mondeo's in the mid 90's
(the black-top version replaced it by the time you get to the focus's - these have a black plastic cam cover)
yes that is a EDIS (the 4 means 4 cylinder)
and you do have a toothed wheel - its built into the flywheel  (the zetec used this setup as standard)
its on the engine side so you cant see it even with the gearbox off
the sensor is down the side of the block, in the flange that the bellhousing bolts to - it should have a sheided wire running directly to the EDIS

yes
there are 2 versions of the MJ kits:
one with and MAP sensor (conected with a vac hose just like a dizzy, suits single carb setups)
and one to suit a TPS (cheaper and more suited to mulit carb setups)
and I beleve they also sell conversion kits if you'd already had the MAP senso version (costs more than just getting the right one)
this will tell you all you need to know (and lots more)
