cat b used as donor?

hi guys...

can a cat b used for a donor and still maintain a age related plate?

i'd be using most of the main components from the donor ie. engine, gearbox, diff etc..

chassis of course will be scraped

thanks for the info given

I thought CAT A and B write-offs had to be scrapped and crushed.

No parts of a CAT A can be re-used and a CAT B you could use parts BUT you can't use the registration to get an age related plate.

As far as I am aware

Cat A: Must be destroyed

Cat B: Can have salvage parts removed & sold but shell must be destroyed ( V5C retained by DVLA & will not be re-issued )

Cat C: Can be returned to the Road after undergiong a VIC check, DVLA will return the V5C free once the VIC is passed.

Cat D/E can be returned to the road without the need for a VIC but if you do not have the V5C a replacement fee is payable.

In theory I suppose you could use the parts of a Cat B vehicle as a single donor source for major components but I have a gut feeling that without the V5C as proof, you may have problems convincing DVLA that this is the case

Is there such thing as a DVLA official working with good old fassioned common sense, an invoice from a licenced salvage agent detailing serial numbers, reg number & vin number should be good enough !!??

Been a couple years since I last traded in the salvage market so might not be fully up to date with things
