Stunning roads fella!!
Quick question- Is that a standard ratio steering rack? You seem to be putting big inputs into the wheel to turn.

It doesn't sound slow at 1.8 but it certainly looks it. I'm guessing it has 'lock-stops' under the gaiters which makes it appear quicker than it is. I'd check under there, remove them, disconnect the track rod ends and try again to see what it does lock to lock then.

Peel back the gaiter boot and look under there for something like this-

as promise, i found lock stops

i remove it and now lock to lock is 2.8, so it's the MK "quick rack".

is there something quicker for MK that is plug and play?

Is it an Escort rack on the Indy R? If so then you should be able to go for a 2.4 or a 2.2. You'll need to check if your current rack is shortened or not too.

indy R has a sierra rack, shortened by MK

Hmmm, not sure what's available if anything for the Sierra quicker than 2.8 but I'm sure someone will speak up shortly. If not then post up a new thread. The other option could be to try one of these, but even a 1.5:1 may be far too quick

i think 2.8 is the quickest for sierra..

the quickeners is interesting, but with 1.5 to 1 i have a lock to lock of 1.8 real, and on the road could be dangerous i think

You're probably right, could be a bit twitchy!! Maybe you need a 'slow rack' with a quickener, either 1.5 or 2.0?
Or probably better to convert it to an Escort rack for 2.4,2.2 or less - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=96291

thanks

i think i'll ask to a local factory if it could modify the 2.8 quick rack to 2.2 or 2.4, using original sierra steering rack.

if they don't, i'll call mk asking to modify escort rack to fit in MK.

No probs
I'll be surprised if the Sierra rack can be modified to increase the ratio. I reckon the Escort rack is the better bet TBH, not exactly sure how it'll me made to fit but I'm sure it'll be easier. I wonder why the Sierra rack was chosen when the Escort one has much better options. Maybe it was thought there would be more around for longer?
With a BEC and those tight hairpins I reckon it could be one of the best mods for you

i completely agree with you (both for the choose betwen escort and sierra steering rack, both for the idea that this is one of the best mod that i'd do)

the idea is not to modify the sierra rack, but to use sierra box and manufacture a new steering rack in the box of sierra.
if it is no possible, i'll call MK sportcars, but i don't want cause orrible customer care..

Great video and so jealous you get to drive those roads all year (well almost) and I only get to do a few days on them in our annual tour. Alpine roads are what BEC's are all about. We're thinking of going as far as the Dolomites next year though there'sbeen no route decision yet.

Having driven the Alps with both a 2.8 and a 2.4 rack, I have to say the 2.4 is better. It's at it's best on twisty sections where you can keep both hands fixed on the wheel. On the hairpins you do still need to move your hands a bit but any quicker than a 2.4 would be a bit twitchy normally.

Those stops on your steering rack look far too restrictive. Are they poly bushes? Do they need to be that long? The only reason they're fitted is to prevent the tyres fouling something on full lock. You could maybe get some shorter ones made and fitted which would give you a better turning circle.

Nice video and cracking road.

Phil

i removed the high-engineering made stops, they are made in simple plastic.

i'm interested more on feedback and driving pleasure than turning circle
