Bonding Panels
I remember reading a while back about bonding panels with various adhesives, 3M UHB was one that i remember.
This approach interests me, i am to lazy to rivet .
Has anybody had any success or failures with bonding.

If you are very brave - go for it.
Most prefer the adhesive AND a mechanically proven method.
Personally I wouldn't - but cant see anything wrong with it!

nothing wrong with bonding most car and truck screens are bonded and some weigh more than 30kgs.

We use a multitude of different structural adhesives in the aircraft industry. All work effectivly and 'Do exactly what it says on the
tin'
A word of warning however, these type of adhesives need to be applied and cured under ideal conditions to acheive the required bond strength. The big
enemies are contamination, moisture and cold temperatures during the curing process.
If you decide to bond on your panels go for scrupulously clean on a warm dry day.
It is also advisable to fit a pop rivet at each corner of the panel.

Also, are you bonding metal to metal or are you bonding to a primed and painted chassis? Your adhesive is only as good as the surface it sticks to.

My side panels are bonded, as is the rear bulkhead behind the seats (ok, with two strategically placed rivets in the top corners.....) No sign of
failure after over 1100km's of "inspired" road use and one trackday.
I used a black PU (windscreen) jobbie.

Thanks for all the advice i think i might just go for it, although it is a while away yet.
What's the worst that can happen?
