Daily driver
I've just made a very strange decision.
I currently drive a VW Passat 4motion. The 130bhp TDI model. It's the epitomy of German solidity and predictability and always does 39mpg no
matter how much I cane it. It wafts up the motorway at 2400rpm in 6th at 70mph. In short, it's a fabulous car and I've now done 32,000
miles in the 19 months that it's been in my possession.
I don't own it - it's a leased car through my employer. I get paid every 2nd Friday and contribute 30 quid every pay to the lease costs. I
pay the same in tax.
I get 7.8p a mile in expenses to put fuel into the car.
Today I cracked. It's been a great 19 months, but I've had enough. I spoke to the Boss, phoned the leasing team and told them I've
had enough and want to terminate the contract.
I do 24,000 miles a year and as of today have decided I will be doing it all in ........

The GTM
Why not ?
It's fuel injected, uses absolutely standard wiring, has a roof, a heater, a CD player etc...
The best bit though, is that my 9,000 business miles per year will now be paid at the Inland Revenue rate of 40p per mile.
Wish me luck - German efficiency to a bloody kit car based on a metro. Still, the expenses I will get paid and the reduced income tax will make me
smile a little

I just went and had a quick drive in it. I just had to jump into it and drive - in the slight drizzle - just to convince myself it really was a
practical car. It was no problem of course.
I'm quite looking forward to this now

Sounds perfectly sensible to me - the illogical car was the Passat. Why pay so much!!
I keep wondering if the Fiat Coupe I have is too practical for the 25000 miles a year I do, or if I should have something more interesting.

Dumped my company car a few years back and bought a Pug 406 TD.
Now coming up to 200000 miles and going great guns, get paid 40p per mile for using it.
Car owes me bugger all and make a tidy profit from it....
