Yamaha R1 5PW - pipe here?

There are a couple of black plastic connectors that swivel near the throttle bodies that look as if they should have a pipe between them but I can not find a picture anywhere to confirm - can anyone clarify?

I think they are vents for some chamber or other in the carbs. I have mine open and have had no trouble.

I was told to leave them like that, the service manual shows nothing between them either.

Yep just join em up, this is what I did to mine, I intended to vent it into a catch tank but didnt bother in the end.
