Insurance Renewal

Evening all.

I am about to renew the insurance on my 7 and the insurance company want to know the current mileage.

My policy is limited to 7,000 miles per year. When I Sva'd the car the speedo was on 0 and now a year later its on 2000 odd. Question is do I tell them the true mileage or tell them I'm closer to the 7,000 and keep those miles in the bag?

I am planning a couple of European trips in the car next summer, so might well get closer to the limit then.

To add another level of fun, I have a digital dash which means I can change the odometer to read whatever I want. However this only helps if I have access to the car, which if I am involved in any accident or theft it would be difficult to correct it!

Cheers

Confused.

P.S. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent!

The odeometer wouldnt tell them how many miles YOUVE done in it anyway, after all someone else could have used it or you could have done 5000 uninsured track miles too which would add to your speedo reading but you might not have done any on the road. Wouldnt advise winding it back though, its recorded on your mot nowadays isnt it. Id just tell em you do 5000 a year by the sound of it if i were you.

7000 miles is a lot of miles in a 7. I'd be surprised if you used up an additional 5000 miles during a road trip ontop of 2000 standard driving next year.

I'd tell them the current 2000 mileometer reading and take out a similar policy again just incase you do get through 7k next year and not bother with mucking about with speedo's etc as you can always say somebody else drove your car on their own insurance for x miles, or that you did x miles on private track days during the year

Be Careful!

I got stung a couple of years ago with my limited mileage policy - I didn't have a mileometer when I took the policy out so when I came to renew it, they asked me what the mileage was - I admitted to having no mileometer so they stung me for another £120 for the year that had just expired!!! I had no choice but to pay it because they'd refuse to insure me! This was more annoying as the only road mileage the car had done was to the MOT centre and back!

Be honest, best policy given tht if you're not and you have to claim and they find out you could be stuffed and they won't pay the claim.

I have a Mk2 Golf GTi insured with HIC on a limited mileage of 5000. They told me if I think I'm gonna exceed the 5000 mile limit I just have to tell them & they will extend it for a fee.
Chances are you wont need more than 7000, it's a lot of Europe & Sunday blasts!

eh? How can they ustify asking for money for a year that had expired? I would have told them to f-off and gone elsewhere - there are other companies out there and I doubt the premium would have been more than £ 120 more surely???

That was my exact question - they told me that if I didn't pay they would refuse my insurance and I'd then be on the 'blacklist' - right bastar*s !!

I'd have written to the Insurance Ombudsman and probably still would to try and get the money back.

Surely they can't demand extra money for the previous years insurance. OK, so the first years insurance premium was based on limited mileage. Since the first year, you've now decided that you no longer need your mileometer and have therefore removed it accordingly. They can now ask for an additional £120 to renew the policy, due to the fact that you no longer have a mileometer but not for the previous years cover.

had this on my range rover classic, was involved in a smash and they charged me £70 for exceeding it + £70 on my renawel as it was almost due. Not a problem, they were nice about it, but said i have to pay.

Now the good news about electronic speedos is u can cut into the wire and add a switch. That way the speedo always tells the truth to the feds/MOT. All u have to do is learn to know your speed with your revs. Great for track days officer! lol

now does anyone know what colour wire is the feed to the range rover?

ive done erm....500 miles in my indy since i got it. not bad for alot of summer fun.

Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.
