In the current Evo magazine, they did a comparison of the new Panda 100HP and the Toyota Prius. They reckoned that the Prius used £4.86 less fuel over their 500 mile journey. The only problem was that the Panda is about 10 grand less, so you'd have to drive over 1 million miles to recoup the difference....

they also did a photo shoot for both outside Drax power station, the biggest releaser of CO2 in Western Europe. They said it had better steering feel than the Prius......

Time for some perspective on CO2 release I think......

The Prius is an environmental con, taking the output from the tailpipe as the environmental impact while conveniently ignoring the manufacturing output.
When you take the pollution from manufacturing the batteries into account I've read you need to drive 180,000 miles to break even. Unfortunately the batteries only last 150,000 miles tops (the warranty is 8 years/80,000 miles and they cost $3000 to replace - i.e. the car is economically written off when they fail).

You're probably talking the best part of 250,000 miles to break even with the panda environmentally if you did buy the new battery.

Carbon footprint, offsetting carbon output and all that nonsense. Its getting on my wick. Another bandwagon for people to jump on. We will NOT cause another ice age and we will NOT be able to reverse it if there was one coming.

Sure, we can all do our bit to 'help' the environment, or atleast reduce the affect we are having on parts of it, but this Carbon Footprint crap is getting out of hand. I can see the government introducing another tax on it soon

And well done for keeping in those farts, the methane output is one downside, the fact that only MY farts smell nice is the other reason you should keep them in

I held my breath for a split second. Thats my contribution.

Its a load of bo$$ocks out of control with the size of the industry.

The goats making the biggest noise are the ones who get paid to do so.

Global warming is caused by the sun and there is absolutely no evidence of it here in the North East, and, there's nothing we can do about it. My greenhouse has recorded a record high of 16C today, the 5th June. And thats under glass.....

I remember the hype back in the late 70's, 80's about the ozone layer with a hole in it. The earth's heat was all going to escape into space if we didn't stop using aerosols and a new ice age was looming.

Has it healed up????

My zetec engine sitting in the garage not being started for a couple years is doing a hell of lot more toward the 'Safe the Planet' scam than a Prius:

I'm gonna go out and shoot a few cows That should help reduce my carbon footprint significantly.

I won't need to go to the butchers for a month or two and I could learn to make my own shoes and clothing from the hides, which means I won't have to visit clothes shops for a while

Well, I've been thinking, I've googled it, searched ebay and cant find a picture of a carbon footprint or any for sale.

Must be one of these creatures you hear about that doesn't exist.

Any one ever seen a carbon footprint?

If you're burning wood and not coal you're being more environmentally friendly than using gas or electric heating

But don't get in the way of my chainsaw . Season the wood before you burn it though if you are in a smokeless area.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
