Zetec rev limit
What is a safe rev limit for a 2.0L Zetec that is breathing through twin 45s?
The engine build is all standard parts/bolts apart from the crank and flywheel have being lightend and balanced.
Also the timing is controlled via a Megajolt unit so the Rev limiter is a soft cut so it just sets the timing to 0 Deg BTDC.
Thanks, Phill

One of the boy racer sites has an issue with the oil pump over 7500 most seem to set it at either 8000 (bet they dont last long) or 7200. The zetec in
standard form drops off power over 6000 unless the head is modified for the better cams.
So don't be greedy with your rev limit unless your engine can produce power that high.

I was going to make a post about this. A friend of mine has decided to use a Zetec in his Mk2 Escort instead of the 20XE which he already has. A big
mistake IMO, but he wants to stick with Ford bits and was told by a reputable local engine builder that the Zetec will safely rev to 8k with stock
rods and crank. Seems unlikely to me, but the engine builder in question built his dads ~270bhp Mi16 Engine, so knows his stuff.

Zetecs with stock rod bolts go to 7200rpm. With ARP rod bolts will go to 8000rpm and a little more if needed. Higher rpm is only needed if the engine
is heavily modified though. As stated power dropd off quite fast. Been reving my Zetec in my Westfield to 7600rpm for the last 5 years without any
problems at all.

Agree with Z350, the conrod bolts are the weak point - ARP's will give you some more confidence......
