R1 5PW Clutch
Hi All,
I've been told the r1 5pw engine uses a diaphram spring on the clutch and that you can double these up for a better feel on the clutch pedal.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get one of these?
Thanks!

go for a barnett clutch conversion instead, much better in my humble opinion even if it is more expensive

Get one from your Yamaha dealer.

The barnett clutch conversion is very easy to do - you don't even need to drain the oil.
You will need to buy a new clutch cover gasket (couple of quid from a Yam dealer) and some gasket sealant.
The conversion replaces the diaphragm spring and pusher plate with a heavy duty pusher plate and coil springs.
You might also remove the silly wire circlip that is sandwiched between a couple of the plates - although changes are it is already in bits in your
sump,. The circlip is there supposedly to make the clutch operation 'quieter' and invariably comes out and gets lunched by the gears.
Price is £99 from fluke, including 2 sets of springs - medium and strong.
The only slightly tricky bit is aligning the pull bearing with the clutch arm. This can be accomplished using my patent alignment tool, otherwise
known as a bit of coat hanger with a hook in it down the oil filler.

Double diapragm spring
I bought a 2nd diapragm spring from yamaha dealer (About £30 I think) then had 2nd thoughts and decided not to fit - however found I was getting a bit
of clutch slip despite plates measuring Ok so fitted second spring. Now no problems at all and a little bit more feel - though still nothing like a
car clutch.
Cheers Greg
