I'm SO happy!!!!
Managed to make some progress today.
Some of you may remember I have been trying to change the bearing seal in my diff.
Well I managed to get the old one out, using the method Richard suggested. Carefully drifted the new one in, to the specified depth! Whooo hooo!
But that left me with the snapped bolt in the rear hub carrier. So off the hub carrier came, along with the shocker and the rear wishbones.
The bones have been wire brushed and the flaking powdercoat removed. I've given them two coats of Hammerite (I know it's pikey, but
it'll be hidden at the back of the car!).
So I tackled the broken bolt, carefully drilling out the centre of the bolt, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm then 6, 7 and finally 8mm. Then carefully managed to get
the bits of bolt out of the threads and ran an M10 tap through. All clear, square and perfect. Not bad for an hours work in the back yard with a
hand drill. In fact, I'm seriously pleased, that's the first time I've managed to get a sheared bolt out without ruining the
surrounding threads / snapping an easyout etc etc.
Ah well, just got to wire brush the hib carrier, paint it, and then I can get the nearside rear put back together. Then I'll make a start on the
offside.......

Nice one! Managing to drill out a seized bolt is a rewarding (if slightly stressful when you're using the bigger bits!) way to spend some time.... Even managed to drill out the Eazi-out last time (which obviously snapped clean off)....
Well done.
i was not so lucky (skillful) with one of my hub bolts, but ok now
Thanks lads.
That reminds me, where can I get a replacement bolt from?? These ones came free with a Ford Sierra. Don't really fancy breaking another donor
to get another set, but guessing it might be cheaper than going to Ford.......
Mike
They're surprisingly not that dear from Ford - the only downside is you have to buy a box of 5...! When I replaced mine I ordered them up and then had a barney with the bloke when he charged me for a total of 10 bolts - seems Ford either don't know how many they fitted to the car or (as you may have found out) they expect the odd one to fail).
Glad you got sorted, what method did hellfire suggest?
Cheers
