turbo boost?
StrikerChris - 18/7/10 at 03:31 PM

Just a quicky,if I up the boost (i'm only running 7psi and double that is "safe" on my setup) will it have any negative effect lag wise or just boost up as normal and keep going?
Chris.

The latter. Once you get used to the extra power though you may have the impression of more lag as it will take longer to reach 14psi than it used to to reach 7.

If you dont know what the effects are, how can you be sure that 14psi is "Safe"?

I would have said that the boost will come in sooner, and give you a harder kick in the ass when at full chat.

The boost will already be at 7 where it is but may take a bit longer to get to 14 as once it hits 7 it starts opening the waste gate. The initial 7 will be the same.

Just years of figuring out the engine when I was building the car!intercoolers big enough, plugs are cold enough injector and pump are up to it and everyone reckons 12 to 14 psi is ok on stock internal.trouble is the sxoc forum has its chav following where its all about massive boost and noises, and little is said about any negative effects.obviously I know it'll be under more stress, and would only wind it up abit at occasions like the pod,its more than quick enough on the road anyways!just was wondering about losing power, normally if you gain something somewhere you loose it elsewhere!

you might be better off with a boost controller if its a stock engine you can dial in where you want the boost so you dont have a sudden 14psi when the floor it, it will put less stress on the internals and make you stock engine last longer lol. plus you dont have to keep messing under the bonnet with the wastegate.

Oh its all in the 5year plan!moneys not tho!just quick is never quick enough and my mates getting ever closer to a 1/4 in the 10's today in the kadett c!need short term gains for our dual!

No difference in lag, you get more lag the bigger the turbo if you know what i mean.

turning up the boost will not increase lag

15psi is safe

i run that but that is on the sr20 engine and its safe to run 1.2bar on my engine with cold plugs etc etc

StrikerChris - 18/7/10 at 08:02 PM

Sr20 here too,was thinkin more about 10 tho,can never be arskt fixing my own things so I'm happy not to break them!

tomgregory2000 - 18/7/10 at 08:43 PM

15psi is safe on std bottom and top, just make sure you have at least 555cc injectors and colder plugs and you would be good for 300bhp, just make sure your clutch can take it

oh and make sure your tyres can handle the power,
im now running 275 width road legal track day kumo v70's and it will spin them up in first and on the old 205's it would spin in first, second and third with 2 up
