My hand book says to descale the coolant system.. but not how.
Any tips on this? What will I need and how long does it take?
Steve
Put it in the dishwasher on a long cycle with an extra tab of washing powder.
Use a cooling system flush likethe one here
Peronally find Forte products better than thier competition.

white viniger which costs about £2 for 5 litres.
leave to soak for a few hours then flush out.
:O)
washing machines live longer with calgon. don't know if its a good idea though...
yup put dishwasher tablets in I've been doing it for years with no side effects
Amazing the crap that comes out. keep in for a couple of days tops.
? so, I stick a couple of dishwasher tablets in the top of the radiator and drive round for a couple of days?
Is that safe?
Steve
IF one uses de mineralized water as coolant base, deposits NEVER happen.
Couldn't be simpler, given that decent quality antifreeze is now at a 5 year lifespan.
Dishwasher tablets are goign to see you with serious engine damage if you use the engine. Bubbles, air voids, chemicals round seals and gaskets that shouldn't be there and are designed to remove "deposits". Either use the right stuff, do it with vinegar when stationary (I'd still be worried about seals and acid effect on other metals in teh coolant system), or don't do it at all.
