just been told by dvla i need to mot the car before they will issue a registration, any kit car friendly mot stations in beds?
its just had an iva that gives you the normal 3 years grace like any other new car. tell them that they are wrong and insist to speak to someone who knows what they are doing.
I use any mot station for my 7, and have never had a problem
although the guy that did mine earlier this year said please dont bring it back next year, as it caught fire on the ramps!
I DO HOPE HE WAS JOKING!

I thought that was only if it was a new plate registration. I'm happy to be corrected though.
Apparently if it's being q plated it has to be mot'd
not heard that one before, after all iva is far more thorough than an mot. i'd be ringing the iva test station to see what they said.

what a load of crap, if you have an IVA then you get 3 years before the first MOT like any new car. thats the whole point of the IVA

my Q plate was no mot for 3 years
if you find that you do need one, which i didnt for 3 years.....
i use onestop in rushden.....
they mot mine, and at least one other that i know about
seem friendly enough
dunno how far that is from you ?
Problem is it was the guy @ Northampton dvla who told me and he is the one issuing my registration so I've got to do it or face no plates
the man dont know what he is going on about.
get it in writing from a different branch/head office and take it with you.
if you want to fight it you need to get in touch with someone at swansea that knows what they;re talking about. then try and get something in writting. it is not the first time dvla have got their own rules wrong, irrc there was an internal memo about kit/amateur built registrations for exactly this problem, obviously not everyone got it.
I'M just going to mot it I just want my plates
I registered my car at the Northampton office on an age related plate, and didn't need an MOT for three years. They also taxed it for me without
an MOT each time it needed it during that time.
Any MOT station should be able to MOT test your seven. It's my understanding that if you present a vehicle that is in the class of vehicles that
they are approved to test, that they can't turn it away. Sevens are the same class as any other car. I've found the testers generally enjoy
having a go at something different, and are usually sympathetic of ground clearance and that sort of thing.

The only problem with MOT is that I am told you will lose your 3 year exemption as it will be "on the system". But I understand your
enthusiasm to get plates.
Personally I think its ridiculous that my car built out of old bits is MOT exempt for 3 years, but it does make life easy.
