Hi, Thought id get in the garage today and get these wingstays fitted which turned out to be a challenge in its self. Popped the wheels back on and as
i expected they wont bit as the backspace in them is to large, from what i can see and have messured i would need about 30mm of spacing which isnt
going to happen!
So new wheels are needed if i want to stick with the cycle wings. Heres where i need so help, ive messured and the wheel can not have a backspace any
greater than 130mm. The arches i have will cover 195's so i need to take half of 195 from 130 to work out my required offset?..... 32.5mm is that
correct? Am i making sense?
In short please help, the main thing is my backspace can be no greater than 130mm.

Are you using the sierra rear axle? If so I would take rear wheels off. Measure between rear hub faces. And try to get the fronts as near as possible
to the rears.then you can start to worry about wheel offsets. What front uprights do you run?
On the mnr the wheels are. Et23 I think. If that helps. And my wheels are caterham ones so they must run the same set up. Some other manufacturers do
use other offsets though so I would probably make a phone call to the manufacturer and find out.
Its a cortina uprights and cortina axle. I have realised that i used the tyre with and not the wheel width to work out the offset though. Ive seen a few wheels with ford fitment that have a 25-35 offset. More money!!!
As before a set of 6" capri laser rims have an et of 18~19mm. 185 tyres are plenty chunky on a 6J rim You will need spacers of around 12mm.

There's not enough meat on the studs for to much MM of spacers.
you can get longer studs. If you like your wheels then 15mm spacers and new studs would be cheap and easy.
Try spacing the wing stays away from the upright and bend them to suit. They will almost certainly break in 500miles and you will end up making stronger ones anyhow . Might be worth doing a search for broken wing stays , mine have been fine since making new ones 4years ago after breaking 4 times in 3 years
How on earth do they break? The welds look pretty good. They are the kit spares ones...

Metal fatigue is a powerful thing - I thought my wing stays (25mm x 3mm flat bar) would be solid for years to come but alas they broke after about 500
miles and have now been upgraded to 25mm x 5mm flat bar) which is much more solid and likely to last for a long time. It's not the welds that
break necessarily, I had my flat bar pushed well inside the oval tubing which comprised the main part of the stay but still they broke just above the
weld in the heat affected zone.
If your stays are less than 5mm flat bar then I'll bet they will break sooner rather than later. Do yourself a favour and upgrade them now.

At risk of sounding really stupid, heat affected zone...? What is making them hot? Mine are nowhere near a source of heat.

your welcome to try them on your car for a fit, and you seem to live fairly close
presently i have 1" spacer's on the back, and none on the front, and my track is 4" wider at the back, all seems fine to me!
On the subject of wheel stays/wheel arch brackets,
What are some of you making them in ? cheese?
Mine are 25mm x 5mm flat steel bar, no tubes, and just hand bent to the desired shape, wheel archs bonded on, and painted
8000 miles so far, and never broken, nor an arch come off,

Didn't make the first set I had , think they came from Robin Hood via Lolocost and they broke near the mounting plate several times
