Yet another question, sorry! is it my round for the popcorn spoke to Andy at AB Perfrmance the other day on the subject of dry sumps/baffle plates,
as my Mk (gsxr 1000 lump) has neither at the moment!... just running an overfilled sump. Just wondering if anyone else has an Accusump,if so what
size, and is it a good alternative to a dry sump, costing £1200! seen an Accusump in the states for £140 plus postage,Ebay Item number: 190134671905,
but it's no good being cheap if it dont work, and i loose an engine!
Any thoughts?
Have a word with Jon at lynx racing. His LR1 races with an accusump.
Basically it keeps an oil reserve to back up when the oil pick up pressure drops.
You also need other parts as when the engine is going to be switched off, the accusump also has to be isolated from the engine beforehand. These can
be manual valves or electric solenoid.
The size is also important, but you should get the one that is around £250 as the smaller 2 quarts units do not have enough capacity.
Oil surge problems also depend on the orientation of your engine. Most 7 becs are side on to the direction of travel so an overfilled engine with a
sump baffle is a minimum.
Accusump definitly is the cheapest when compared to dry sump and race proven too.
It just depends on how much you value your engine.
From what I've heard the accusump (which is basically a pressurised oil container) will make up for relatively short term pressure loss on fast
corners. However, it's capacity is limited so eventually (if the corner was long enough) it'll run out and then you'll still get low
oil pressure.
With a dry sump this won't happen.
For most tracks a suitable accusump is fine, but potentially you could still get low pressure resulting in engine death if lateral Gs were sustained
for long enough to deplete the accusump....
Some of the RGB (road-going-bike) race series drives just use a Accusump but then a few have also ended up going dry sump after an engine died...
Clear as mud
So it sounds like it depends on how many times you want to go round the same roundabout sideways!
On a more serious note a good example would be how many rgb racers have run engines with accusump's round gerrard's at mallory and lived to
tell the tale, this has to be the one of the longest oil starving bends on track in the uk?
He had an Accusump on his Blackbird engine in the GT1 and I don't think he ever had problems with that.

Thanks guys, will give the subject some thought, probably only do Castle Combe and maybe go over to Anglesey, rest of the time it will sideways on
roundabouts it's a cost against risk thing I guess.
What about oil additives like Slick? if you see the guys on the stands at shows (it was a few years ago)they say you can run an engine with no oil
in,and i've seen a promo vid showing a car going round a rally stage with no oil in sump, not tried doing that of course, but i have used it in a
car engine, and it did seem to increase engine revs slightly.Would that be another option maybe,if used with an Accusump?
