Use your i-phone to measure the performance characteristics of your car;

Could be handy.
Nice. $13 USD is cheap too. anyone want to lend me their iPhone?
That's cheap!!! Might try it and report back....

Accuracy
A detailed accuracy analysis using professional timing equipment at a regulation dragstrip will be posted soon.
For $13 it's worth a punt and a test against the SatNav.....
I worry it won't be that accurate. After all the iPhone isn't designed to be a g-meter....
I have a similar thing on my Orbit phone called GPS Performance, I do not think it is that accurate. It gave me a 3 sec 0-60 and a friends 200sx a
0-60 of 4.5 which is just not possible from the spec. The 1/4 mile runs seem to be slightly more accurate, I think the problem is in the accuracy of
the start, it seems to take a while to calculate the GPS and then gives strange readings.
It also told me I was pulling over 2g in acceleration from my little GSXR engine, I just cannot see this to be true.
Hopefully the Iphone version will be better.
Presumably the iphone will actually use its in-built accelerometer (used for knowing which way up you are holding it to rotate the screen image) so should be more accurate than acceleration calulated from gps speed?
Maybe. But a "which way is up" accelerometer only needs to be +/- 1G!!!! Hardly accurate....
is an acceleromometer really needed to decidide which way up something is?
