As I intend to fit a megajolt, it would be nice to not have the dizzy left in. I believe it is required to drive the oil pump.

Has anyone come up with an alternative?
Can the dizzy be stripped down to a bare minimum?

which engine? (although it looks yours is pinto)

on rover v8 cam driver the dizzy whcih then drives the oil pump.

on crossflow, cam drives the oil pump.

so on the latter you can remove the dizzy. dunno about the pinto - that wan't helpful was it?

On the x-flow a camshaft gear drives the oil pump - the other side of the gear that drives the dizzy. I can't see any reason why the dizzy shouldn't be taken away, but you will have to plug the dizzy hole.

(it's the fuel pump that's driven by a cam)

i am running megajolt on a pinto, you need the dizzy to drive the oil pump. we got an old dizzy and stripped out the inside and made a blanking plate for the top

Ive stripped an old dizzy down for my pinto but wasnt sure how to finish it off.

I used an old distributor, removed the offending parts, and machined out the top to take a small bearing cartridge.
