Now I am sure there was a thread on this before but I can't find it.

My daughter is starting to get interested in coming out in the Indy, but what are the legalities of her using a 4 point harness? her current booster is too wide for the fibreglass seat, and because the lap belts go over the seat sides she will submarine without one ( crotch belts would sort that and the harness buckle will take them) . If i can't buy something to fit, can I make one out of one of those seat foam kits?

She trail fits height wise sitting on some loose padding. The base of the seat is 14" across and she is 115cm tall. Any ideas peeps?

I managed to buy a very slim child seat from Halfords for £5.

I wouldn't dream of using it in the tin top but in the kit with a high-sided bucket and 4 point harness it's ideal.

It's very narrow and fits a tight GRP seat that I only just manage to fit in.

Get a coupleof tins of expanding foam filler (from the pund shop) in a couple of bin bags (also the pound shop), and make a booster to fit. You can then put it in a cushion cover to make it look a bit better. It will fit her individually as well, so should be a bit more comfortable than a standard booster.

The only problem is getting her to sit still while the foam moulds itself! Sweets may also be needed!

But will it be legal??? I quite like the idea of making one to fit as it will probably fit better and bring her shoulders forward too.

Will pop to shalfords for a looksee too. Ta.

But (from memory) i dont recall any requirements for an E marked booster or other demarkation, only the requirement for children under a certain age or height to have one?

got to be honest, I shalln't ever be taking my daughter in mine. The car itself is just not safe enough. If I stop and think about it for long enough, I could see myself reaching the conclusion that it's not safe enough for her dad either... but less of that.

The legislation requires "Correct child restraint MUST be used" where correct is defined as a type approved seat.

i.e. UN ECE Regulation 44.03 (or subsequent) type approval standard and be marked with a label (showing an "E" and "44.03" or ".03" and the Group number, or weight range of child, for which it is designed.

You're unlikely to be questioned anyway as I doubt the police will have the legislation instantly to hand, but after an accident is the worst time for insurance/plod to get involved in questions about regulations.

No it wouldn't be legal, in theory you can't even shave 1mm off an approved seat to make it fit and remain legal.

DarrenW did some letter writing with the DoT and they refuse to give any exemptions despite the law being written for lap belts.

Got a 4 seater and with the back seats being flat got no problem fitting booster seats although only 1 child needs it now
