euro car spares non patent part-oil filter
I am doing an oil change this weekend so went to buy a new oil filter today. All of the previous changes have inclided genuine toyota and denso oil
filters. As an experiment I went to euro car parts amd gave them the part number. For £3 less they sold me a non toyota part. Im not a brand snob but
I feel a cheap Chinese oil filter cant be as good as a denso one.
I drive this car hard, as it should be, and oil quality is important. Should I worry about using this oil filter?

Euros had an offer of a free filter when you bought oil,( if thats still on) it would let you choose any listed filter including Bosch ones.
If you change your filter quite regularly I wouldn't be concerned about using a pattern part.

Oil filter brand is not significant what is important particularly with Toyota engines (which have known piston & bore wear issues ) is to use
the correct grade of fully synthetic oil.

I would always use branded OE filters after seeing non branded one cut in half and compared through work!
Very shocking

I remember years ago, my Step Father had an old but lovely 4.2l Jag. The guy who did the services used a pattern oil filter once and within a very
short time the engine seized! Turns out the oil filter was not allowing enough oil flow and starved the engine. Wrecked it and cost him a pretty
penny.
For the sake of a few quid is it worth it?
Just my humble opinion....
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Thats the sort of thing im worried about. Im using top grade snazzy oil then a cheap filter. It dont drop below about 5k on track so needs to work.
I think ill change it.

I used a cheap filter and the problem was the rubber o ring that sealed it- it gave way and dumped the oil on my cat and set the engine bay on
fire.
Luckily once the oil burnt off fire went out car was repaired, mechanic explained that OEM filters which have o ring seals are quite often failing
because the o ring in not quite thed
right size.
No cheap filters for me ever again

Some other reason for the blow up which are not unkown on XK engines.
If the oil filter is not flowing oil the by-pass valve opens oil gets to the bearings, XK Jags have oil pressure gauge after the filter if
enough oil wasn't getting through to the bearings the gauge would show very low oil pressure.

I was at bouton a while back and a guy in a Westy had a cheap filter on and the cup popped off from the top.... Made a right mess... That said
I'm sure it's unusual...
A lot of reman oil filters will PROBABLY come from where Toyota etc buy them from anyway.
Ps don't forget eurocarparts match pricing so check out the sister company carparts4less

I used to use OEM filters all the time, but spoke to a filter distributor through work (they supply oem & pattern air/oil/fuel filters to
trade). He said as long as you stick to the likes of the TUV approved pattern ones, they are every bit as good as OEM. HiFlo are one of the better
pattern filter producers apparently.
