Engine Stand

What should I use to secure an engine to and engine stand

I thought maybe threaded rod but then thought against it as its designed to be used in tension along its length rather than shear.

Next idea was gearbox bolts, but my only set are on the car. If gearbox bolts are the only option, does anybody knwo what the spec is of the bolts fromn a pinto block to type 9 box/bellhousing??

My zetec's been hung on the stand with 4 x M10 threaded rods, no hint of sheer, and its been rotated like a chicken on a spit.....

You can just make them out on the pics in my archive - Engine - carbs wont fall off

The rod is soft so will bend a long way before it breaks.

Tensile bolts that came with the stand -but x flows with clutch attached get the threaded bars, it certainly sags a bit but none have fallen off yet

Jos - why not whip head off and diy port (des hammil book great). Piper A8 cam (or FR33 - dont use the Fr32 i have). Then fit bike carbs and megajolt.

You will not be disappointed. I have to be careful driving my car this time of year. I bet you could fit bike carbs for not a lot of money.

You had your current bottom end refreshed didnt you? My plan means you will get some decent power whilst you get new block carefully rebuilt.

If you have big power on budget in mind try contacting Mookaloid or AndyD for details of theirs.

Oh - and after that book in some skid pan training.

yup bottom ends been refreshed

I hear what you and a few others say re FR32 so its either the 33 34 or piper 285 Mark likes

Got my bike carbs just need to save some pennies for the manifold (dont mention alternative suppliers)

Then i think its just an aldon dizzy and I'm off

Fingers crossed for Newark.

WOO HOO

God knows what the Piper A8 spec is nut probs similar to what mark proposes. Ive had the A8 recommended from 2 different sources (both of whom cringed when i said what mine was).

Aldon dizzy - why? Megajolt was one of the best mods ive done - maybe im just lured by the plugs and tweakability though. Ive heard good reports about aftermarket dizzies as well though.
