This has to be the best disclaimer i have ever read....

not sure id risk my fingers for some clean wheels though... just use autoglym (not an ad...)

O.K. i see what he is doing but i would do it slowly on a lathe with my other hand near the emergency stop.

No real difference to polishing in a lathe - I do that all the time
I've had a few battered fingers over the years - and probably a few more to come - but while I can still count to ten I'll carry on

The most dangerous thing he did there was use one of those stupid rolling stools
That and the cheap jackstands.
As long as you keep your fingers aimed the right way it's not going to hurt you. Well, it might burn your fingers from heat heh.

yeah, but how much safer would it have been if he put the paper on a stick?
On the plus side, if you did slip, it would twat your fingers away rather than suck them in. Still broken fingers, but not lost.

The rims aren't spinning at 100mph. If you smack your fingers on the spokes it just gives them a bit of a rap and bounce them away from the
rim. Not enough to hurt.
If the worst happened and you managed to get wrapped up in the wheel via your arm or shirt it would certainly do some damage. But if the car is not
LSD you will probably be fine. When looking for bearing noises etc I run cars on the hoist and stop one wheel with my hands.
To me polishing rims like that is safer than a gear driven lathe or drillpress that won't stop for anything.

True. But consider that on a gear driven drillpress at 1000rpm you have about 0.2seconds from the time it grabs your sleeve to the time your entire
arm is wrapped up. With no belts to slip you are not going to enjoy that.
All industrial accidents are scary but polishing your rims like that does not concern me so long as you use your brain.
