Considering Fully Flat Floor - any tips?

I'm considering going for a fully flat floor on my Fury.

If I understand correctly the main benefits are reduced drag and reduced lift.

At the moment only the seat areas are panelled so all under the engine, transmission tunnel and diff & petrol tank etc are exposed.

What thickness of ally sheet should I use - won't be standing on it like the main floor and I don't want to add too much weight.

Also I guess it would be useful if its removeable so are rivnuts the best bet (M5?)

The sump is still going to stick out so dropping the oil won't be any more diffcult but oil filter access could be.

Any tips appreciated.

Oh and where is the best place to buy sheets of aluminium? I'm in Northampton.

Watch out for engine bay temperatures.... nowhere for the air to get out if its fully paneled.

Hi yep engine bay temps will need to be checked and vented if problems. Also Diffs can be a problem. On the race cars they will do a 1/2 hour race just. But if testing for longer periods they overheat. Meaning venting and cold air feed is nesercery.

HTH cheers Matt

I'm planning the same thing. I'm going for 1.6mm and I'll fasten it with 5mm capheads. I'm going to put an NACA duct in the tunnel section to feed some cool air to the diff', a vent in each side of the bonnet and 2 vents in the indentations on the top of the LeMans bonnet.

A trick used by short oval Hot Rod racers with the english axle was to cool the diff oil by pumping it out via a electric bilge pump through a length of copper pipe then back to the diff --- it was just enough to cool the diff without a cooler.
