Engine balance

Static balancing of pistons and rods. How close do they have to be.
Only just stripped the engine and just chucked them uncleaned onto the scales to have a quick look before I call it a day. I have just weighed the grubby complete assemblies, pistons/rings/rods/caps/bearings/bolts, and find the heaviest is 5grams more than the lightest for a 950gram unit. Zetec silvertop 2L.
Obviously they will be stripped down further, and cleaned before a reweigh but how close should they be?

Almost 0.5% difference ?

Less than 1 gramme difference I believe.
Bear in mind though if these ar e dirty/oily this could account for the diference, 5g is not a lot
